How much sleep is enough sleep

    Guys,
My question is, what is the minimum sleep required to still be able to hit the gym without harming your body or health? Im a full time student and work full time. i get home around 3am from work and wake up at 8am for class. as dumb as this sounds im falling into some kind of depression not working out. i was fully committed and being active but havent been able to workout since april and its driving me crazy to the point where i want to drop my classes at times just so i can have time to work out. My schedule right now is, from 9am to 2pm i go to school. From 2:30pm to 2am, i work. Thats my schedule monday through friday. Is there anyone who runs on 4 to 5 hours of sleep daily and still works out? is it healthy? Any tips? I think i can fit a 30 minute work out before class if i wake up a couple minutes earlier but i dont want to put my health at risk neither.

Subjective. I made the best strength gains of my life on 3-4 hours of sleep per night.

How does this relate to nutrition?

it depends on you...some people need to sleep more, some people need to sleep less.

If you are sleepy throughout the whole day and mentally weak, it means you need to sleep more. If you feel ok and look forward to hitting the gym you are doing alright.

I guess something between 5 and 8 hours is pretty standard/reasonable.

I would try to throw naps in whenever I could. Even a 20 min one is better than none.

I would make sure you keep working out just keep volume relatively low until you know what you can recover from. In the future if you can optimize sleep then up the volume. Also focus hard on proper nutrition and mobility work as well

buddy, i had full time engineering school, one part time job in the city where i live in, and I had to fly down to the states thursday to sunday every two weeks for my second job (id miss classes on those days) and I used to workout full time. = no social life = but i made Sh** load of gains!

I had days where id work out on no sleep. You do you, push through it. however perfect sleep duration is 8 hours.

Were you productive when doing this? I've worked out after 30 hour shifts and I feel incredibly injury prone to the point where I don't dare to go heavier than my typical heaviest warm up sets.

Sleep is a vital indicator of overall health and well-being. We spend up to one-third of our lives asleep, and the overall state of our ""sleep health"" remains an essential question throughout our lifespan.

Newborns (0-3 months): Sleep range narrowed to 14-17 hours each day (previously it was 12-18)
Infants (4-11 months): Sleep range widened two hours to 12-15 hours (previously it was 14-15)
Toddlers (1-2 years): Sleep range widened by one hour to 11-14 hours (previously it was 12-14)
Preschoolers (3-5): Sleep range widened by one hour to 10-13 hours (previously it was 11-13)
School age children (6-13): Sleep range widened by one hour to 9-11 hours (previously it was 10-11)
Teenagers (14-17): Sleep range widened by one hour to 8-10 hours (previously it was 8.5-9.5)
Younger adults (18-25): Sleep range is 7-9 hours (new age category)
Adults (26-64): Sleep range did not change and remains 7-9 hours
Older adults (65+): Sleep range is 7-8 hours (new age category)

quality over quantity for me. Sometimes I need 7-8 to be rested, sometimes a solid 5-6 hours is plenty... also depends when in your sleep cycle you wake up, too.

I think it's partially a genetic thing. It also depends on your age. Younger teenagers, etc. need more sleep. With that said, a pretty common suggestion is about 8 hours or so.
