Waking up hungry
For the last couple of weeks....I'm being waking up in the middle of the night hungry....initially I told myself....Your not hungry and after 30 minutes or so I fell asleep....This last saturday it happened again....but this time I got up and ate some homemade chicken jerky and a small homemade protein bar...and slept like a baby...Presently I'm on a clean bulk, my calorie intake averages about 2200.Question ,do you guys experience this and do you get up and eat. Also, do you think I should increase my calories during the day...Lastly I'm on a 5 day split lifting an about an hour a session..Any and all advice is welcomed.....Self

I would think 2200 calories would be more of a maintenance diet for you, maybe even under.
Have you been seeing some bulk results?
What is the gap between your last meal and the time you go to bed?

the last shhit i took had 2200 cals in it. ahhhhh...sorry. anyway, yeah, if you're bulking you need to eat more. even a "clean" bulk. i ate 5300 cals today with almost zero fat...pretty "clean" i guess.
i go crazy when im hungry...i would say eat if it bothers you. especially if it will help you get back to sleep. at that point you're already awake, and it will probably benefit you greatly to give your body something to work with for your second half of sleep. especially if you've got homemade jerky!

Sincere thanks dude.....I lost 50 pounds within the year...and I think I'm still livin a fat man's mindset.... Actually I feel kinda stupid askin this question since I have read millions of posts stating if your hungry then eat.My main problem is my small amount of belly fat...I want it gone....Anybody else?

Start eating 2400-2500 cals and see if you gain to fast or not. 2200 seems low for a bulk but at 39 I'm sure my horrible metabolism will be somewhere around there too.

The reason this happens is because your metabolism was low from a poor diet probably. Your body adjusted to having a low intake then you increased it at some time to the now 2200 which resulted in your gains.
170/2.2 * 24 * .95 = 1762
(going with a lean factor of two since I'm not 100% sure of your body fat. 14% - <20% BF)
1762 * 1.65 (using a 165 modifier as an avg) = 2907 (this would be your guessed Maintenance requirement)
From here you would add 357 to bulk or take 500 away to cut. (Per day)
------------------
Oh btw, since your at 2200 right now, a method you could use would be increase it by 100 - 200 calories a week and either increase it weekly or every two weeks but make sure you monitor the results.
Good luck.

Hey; It's the way your metabolism is trained. You need to train your metabolism by eating solid, consistent meals in the same way you train with consistency. At 170lbs, I was INITIALLY surprised to read 2200 daily calories, but after reading that you were overweight, It makes sense that your metabolism is still in need of some work. Just slowly add healthy calories to your daily intake, just as you slowly add weight to your lifts, and work your caloric intake up. I have always been a light-weight, yet I eat and maintain my weight @ 134lbs. currently eating close to 3500 calories daily, including about 480g. of wholesome carbs (which would blow up some heavyweights not accustomed to so many carbs, I might add) so it's all about training your metabolism to eat the foods and calories that you see fit for yourself.
Good luck.

This is why you slowly walk it up to where it should be. Log your results. Your body knows best. I'm pretty confident in what I told you and you won't put on massive amounts of fat if you do it right and keep training the same.
BTW, I'm 193 & 13.6% BF, I'm eating just shy 4000 calories. While it might be genetics to an extent I'm able to eat just high enough to put on lean more then fat. My BF% has been going down slowly on a bulk because of this.

clarifying it
Maybe I need to clarify this.....I'm presently at 175...11% bodyfat....It's my goal to get to 9%....and stay at my 175 weight....I want a firm stomach....On my caliper there is about zero fat levels on my chest.leg....the only fat that is measurable is from my belly and alittle back fat....I have been on a clean bulk because I dont want to lose more weight.....I want to feed the muscle to continue the lean muscle mass that's happening...For Example...I was 170 for about a month and I felt I looked too thin so I increased my calories from 1800 to 2200...i automatically weighted 5 pounds of muscle in about 2 months...Hope this is more informational.....So should I talk myself out of eating when I wake up hungry at night and do any of you guys have this situation and if yes, how do you handle it...thanks,....Self

Ah yeah, I was thinking of another post when I replied to that above.
The reason I talked about resetting your metabolism was more so for health reasons. If you can get it back up around the maintenance levels then you can enjoy more foods and just maintain a much healthier cut.
If you are going for the competition type look though, then you might just have to keep doing what your doing.
It just depends on your goals and what you want.

When I'm hungry at night, I can not sleep any more so I usually eat some fat free yogurth or a small piece of fruit. It helps me to fall asleep.
If you're hungry eat something especially if you fall asleep easier afterwards.

There are two ways to fix this that I can see.
One, it's mental and you allow yourself to eat so your body see's it as normal. So to fix it, stop ****ing giving in to your craving.
Or two, consider that meal as part of your daily intake. That way you don't have to adjust your intake.
You have to train your body AND your Mind.
Good Luck.
