Went to an after party last night(tru bb'ers/athletes GTFIH)
I got off work at 2am last night and decided to head to downtown denver for an after party with some co-workers. Ended up being an extremely nice penthouse, a 1 level flat, hyoooooge. was one of the nicest places ive ever personally seen downtown...
the guy who owns the place is paralyzed from the waist down..i thought for sure he prolly got some sort of settlement from maybe a car accident or something. i didnt talk to the brah for a while, i was just mingling with other people...then i started walking around and saw several pre-cor exercise machines, thought they were just for phys therapy for himself...
eventually i run into the dude while he is wheeling around, i approach him and start talkin to him. name=mason. im pretty upfront and ask him whats up with his condition and how did it happen. says he was in really bad ski accident when he was 18. so then, im like..."oh then how do you have such a nice place..what do you do..." come to find out....he owns several gyms around colorado called Rock Fitness and is also a personal trainer. he says, "ya, come check out the gym."
so he wheels to the far back part of his flat in which there are chinese type sliding doors. opens them up...revealing a full gym. my mind=blown. i was ecstatic, i couldnt help but to laugh in excitement and ^5 the brah. but...as i looked around...i noticed..he has no dumbells. im like, "wtf mayne you dont have any dumbells". he says of course not, and that he doesnt use dumbells and would NEVER recommend them for bb'ers. says barbells are only way to go. we get into a debate about it.. he pretty much convinces me that db's are not necessary. the rest of the night/morning, till 7am, we talking bb'ing. about everything. every aspect...diet, training, steroids, pro's, naturals, comps, bulking/cutting....this dude knew his ****...i was beyond impressed with his extensive knowledge as well as his success...just to think that this guy became successful AFTER he became paralyzed...so..apparently he has his clients come to his penthouse to train, not to his gyms he owns, living the dream man..
going to an afterparty i thought it would just be a bunch of douchebags getting drunk and acting a fool...but id have to say i became even more inspired last night than i ever have been. never would have expected or fathomed meeting someone like this on such an evening/night(no homo)
he showed me pics of all his clients, natural and unnatural...the naturals looked like they were on roids, couldnt believe it. so, he gives me his business card and says if i ever have any questions or need any advice about anything, call him. i say, literally, "money...none." he says dont worry about it ill help you out regardless. feels good man.
here is one of his clients, fitness athlete that is Ms. Colorado Fitness...

well...first and foremost..we all know that stabilizer muscles are utilized with using db's..so that was MY main arguement...he says working stabilizer muscles is only necessary if you are an actual athlete and dont care about your aesthetic appearance. but with bodybuilders, using barbell will shape the muscles to be more blocky and full and db's will shape the muscles less than such

meh.....no. but what he said in that regard really changed my perspective on db's. it wasnt a huge revelation or anything, just interesting. ill prolly throw an exercise in here and there that incorporates db's but wont use them as a 'staple' in my training as i once had...and when i say that, im speaking more in terms of chest and shoulder press as well as bi curls

cool story...but even for BBers i don't buy the dumbbell argument.
1) shoulder press, you can go down farther with db's and turn the db's down with your wrists
2) lat pulls, you can get a better rance of motion
-its easier to do drop sets with dbs
just off the top of my head.

hmm well this makes me feel better about how ive been focusing way more on db's lately. aesthetics are cool but definitely the least important aspect to me.
interesting thread
