20 rep with milk- 2% milk okay?

So heres the deal. I posted this in the supplement section because milk is to me a supplement, especially when your buying a gallon a day.

my question is, since my campus's food store only sells up to 2% milk in terms of fat content, and i haveto use my flex ( prepaid money put on a card) or else id be broke, do you think its worth it? I NEED to start lifting hard again, having a structured lifting regimen kept me successful and boosted m self-esteem, and ive just gotten back to training after a few weeks and i already have thickened up again. any advice on whether to continue or wait until i have the money for whole milk?

Agreed. It's 40 less calories per serving, but as long as you can make those up elsewhere if you need to, you're still getting plenty of great protein/fats/carbs on a heavy lifting program.

Actually if you break down the calories to money it's not bad, ya gotta eat. Less than 3 dollars a day for something like 2k calories. Worked for me. Got some funked up looks at checkout...

I'm also very lucky in that I had no gastro problems or anything... well other than crapping a lot. It was a bulk tho, so that much I expected!

2 percent milk works dude. You can get your fats through other means. If the taste works for you, it's not a problem at all.

I'm 29 and haven't noticed anything really. Perhaps on a younger person with more stuff going on, not sure.

yeah, the first day was ridic haha, it really screwed me up. halloween **** goin on last night so i cut down and im back at it today; a lot easier actually.

during the summer i ate like 3 double chessburgers (mcdonalds is right across the street haha) and I got so constipated; i lost 15-20 pounds after that, after gaining 30.. so it kindof sucks right now, and im trying to fit my lifting in while making sure i focus on school. my workouts arent over an hour usually, but i haveto mentally indulge myself in the thoughts of hitting the wights, being dedicated is the only way i ever went from benching 95 to 225 and squatting from like 150 to around 300-315 ( haven't tested recently, after 20 rep squat hopefully my 5RM will be 20RM at 225 haha).

EDIT: some parts of my body are itching like crazy!! no acne though.

Yep. I had worse acne than I had when I was 16. Cut down to 1/2 gallon and started using rpn banish soap 2-3 times a day and it went away.

What is your purpose with the milk consumption.

For use as a protein source? (hope not), Breakfast cereal? Drink? to mix with your protein shake?

For use as a protein source? (hope not), Breakfast cereal? Drink? to mix with your protein shake?

my purpose obviously isnt to mix with cereal.. you mean howam i using it? thatd be a hella lot of cereal haha, but yeah i mean using it to mix with shakes and have with cereal is a way of getting it down, although if i mixed it with the weight gainer i have now ( no im not found of gainers) id prbly puke; i just drink it raw.

My purpose is to gain the weight i lost when i was sick and studying and not training ( diet plus routine) back. Also, to set new records in terms of strength, and try to get as strong as possible before i start training in martial arts, which might not be for another several years; ive only been weight training consistently for 2 years.

Hehe I know some cornflakes freaks out there, I used to be one of them back in the day.

1. For one do not use milk in your post workout shake. The casein in milk coagulates in the stomach causing they whey proteins to be digested and absorbed at a much slower rate which defeats the purpose of the post-workout shake. The post-workout shake is all about getting the protein into your muscle tissue as fast as possible. It has been debated to when the window of nutrient absorption is the highest, seems to be 1 hour after the workout. It takes a typical whey protein about 30 minutes to get into your muscles and about an hour to the peak release to were it starts to decline. What is a really good idea is to mix your protein shake with milk before bed since there it would be useful to have protein being absorbed at a much slower rate (keeping your muscles fueled during sleep and avoiding negative nitrogen retention)

2. Personally I would never ever use MILK as a protein source in general.
There is not much more than 3% protein in milk. You would have to drink a liter of milk to get your 30 grams of protein (only 20% will be whey and 80% casein) So you would be consuming 6 grams of whey protein. The bigger issue at hand is that even if it is low fat milk, you would be consuming over 50 grams of lactose sugar and about 20 grams of fat (according the low fat milk I have in my fridge) Most people have a hard time with milk and almost everyone I know gets an increase of methane gas release (farting)

I know of some people that use milk as a main protein source but I ONLY use milk for my cornflakes at breakfast (nasty mixed with water)

I'd personally think 2% milk is far superior to whole milk for this purpose. If you want fats you might as well add them in the form of specific fats that you want imo. I guess it's not as cheap to add olive oil, pb, flax etc all the time but it's prob going to be healthier in the long run.

It also seems like a really bad idea to go from a normal diet to a GOMAD diet overnight. Seems much wiser to incrementally increase. Say if you drink 20 ounces normally to increase it to 35 then 50 then 65 etc until you get to the 128. Could make larger steps if needed obviously. Would allow your body to adapt though. That's a LOT of lactose for anyone to handle... a large percentage of the population is lactose intolerant to some degree so drinking that much is going to cause varying issues for each person.

I am increasingly slowly. My bowels are better today than the past couple of days, and yet im only at 1/4 a day. and im still having issues. like i said before, i became really sensitive to milk during the summer almost overnight so it seems and got very sick and lost a lot of weight. my bowels are still messed up right now ( was just in the bathroom). better than yesterday though, and i drank the milk much quicker today, and a little bit more than the previous days as well.. adapting fast? idk haha.

SwissMuscle, i agree with you. thats why i tend to take my weight gainers before bed, or just milk even if i dont have a gainer ( not fond of gainers, whole food all the way). plus, instead of buying casein or even whey, just go get some powedered milk from the supermarket.. insanely cheaper. its all about the marketing.

Calories. I'd like someone to show me how to consume 1,000 calories in 4 glasses of liquid with the same price per serving. =)
