What to do when your sick.....
I thought I would post this for others to share their thoughts as they approach this flu season. As we know its getting to be winter time, and I would say most of us at some point will get sick...flu or bad cold at some point (luckily I am getting my flu out of the way for the season early, <sarcasm>)....
most of us up our calories in the winter and try to add some extra mass...but how do you approach this when your so sick you can't train? The way I approach it is a keep my calories high, so my muscles are fully recovered and well rested when I go back to the gym....at the expense of gaining a bit of fat for sitting around and doing nothing being sick. In the past, I used to cut my calories when I was sick, but I have found I make a stronger rebound keeping them high.
how do you all aproach your calories when your sick?

Eat and rest. Don't mind if I pick up a little extra padding when I'm sick, I know I'll drop it all when I'm back in the gym and running.

If you get so sick that you lose your appetite like I did, I found that keeping a nice 1/2 gallon of ice cream in the freezer is a good way to assist with getting in maintenance calories.
You might as well get some benefit from being sick

Just went thru swine flu and had the last 6 days off. I kept my protien high with shakes and some real mass cause i was not able to eat much and my weight did not go anywhere( 1 pound on my frame thats half a dump) I think i got a little soft in the middle but i went and DL today so i could just be bloated. I don't feel too bad just was chomping at the bit to get into the gym.

for me, it depends on if it's the coldor flu. If it's a cold, it's pretty much business as usual, keep lifting, keep doing the cardio. If it's the flu, I tend notto lift/do cardio as my temperature if usually elevated b/c of the flu, and I don;t want to rasie it higher on purpose.
I also feelt hat lifting while I have a cold also tends to speed it up and out of my system. I also hit the vitamin C real hard, as well as the Zinc (for sore throats)

I sleep, drink fluids, try to eat, then start over. Main thing is sleep...or at least try. I don't even think about training...it just makes me stress )-:

It's pretty difficult for me to keep food down when I get the flu. I usually get it every couple years and it might last for 2 to 3 days. Protein shakes and egg whites usually work best for me. Whole grain cereals, toast and crackers as well. I load up on vitamin c, zinc, get plenty of fluids and rest.
Wishing everyone a healthy season.

yea I pretty much figured out I had the flu, when I did about 2 sets, and my tempature skyrocketed, to the point I was drenched in sweat and about to pass out....
so I googled symptoms of the flu, and way like "hey no crap, thats what I have to the tee"...i guess I just figured I wasn't sick because I didnt have the head congestion, till I learned alot of times with the flu, you don't even have that...
my symptoms,
-every muscle, joint, and everything just hurts....
-one minute I am cold and clamy, the next busting out in sweats
-queezy stomach
- and most of all, just all around exausted... felt like this for 7 days now
