Question Pullup Question...

I bought a pullup tower that has bars to stand on at the bottom and you can pull yourself up from there ..kinda like being assisted. I can do about 4-5 of these but not at one time.
Anyhow...my question is...If you arent using the wide grip is it still considered a true pullup?
I was curious because in the magazines when they show a lady doing pullups...it's always wide grip...there is no way I can do that!

Wide grip are harder to do and put more emphasis on your back instead of your biceps to pull your body up. If you have your palms facing away from you, it is a pullup. If you have your palms facing toward you, it is a chinup.

So either way...wide grip or close grip with palms facing away is a pullup?

If your starting out with trying to do pullups a trick I used was using a milk crate instead of landing on the sides of the pullup station.

Break the pull up into different steps with different grips. Start with doing pullups using the milk crate as a landing pad as you come down. Use a close grip first then as you progress, moves towards a wider grip.

Then as you master the wider grip with the milk crate, remove the crate and bring in your grip again. Trying doing one pullup at a time with a close grip no milk crate and keep pushing yourself to add additional pullups.

GoodLuck!!

Also, if chins are easier, incorporate those into your routine. A great biceps conditioner, they will increase your pull up abilities. If you can manage it, you might also try one palm facing in and one facing out for a combo chin/pull.
