You are thinking about this backwards the more water you drink the less water you will retain. Water retention is caused when you restrict you water then restart drinking your body for a short period will retain the water like a storage tank for later.

When you drink again regular and a lot of water your body will give up the water weight thinking there is a good supply coming in.

Also sodium levels will effect your water retention due to dehydration if you eat healthy and low sodium then all of a sudden have a large intake or salty foods like a pizza hut you can retain a lot of water weight over night but then lose it again when returning to the healthy diet.

weigh yourself at the same time on the same day of the week. For myself I weigh myself every saturday morning first thing when I wake up usually 10:00am. That way I know what to expect. If the scale says 231 saturday morning it may be 236 by 4:00pm on that same saturday. Its just the way the body is. So if I weigh myself at the same time everytime I know what to expect and don't have to worry about water weight or anything of that nature.

Adam that is a good point because my scale said i fluctuated by about 6Lbs in one day and I thought my scale was going loopy but maybe I should try weighing in at the same time every week....Thanks for the idea :^)

I have a question and maybe you can help me dblue.....I drink lots of water now compared to before I started working out. I was just wondering since I drink more water now and still take in probably more sodium than I should...does that mean I will retain more water now?

Also is the Goat for GTO? lol....just wondering because that is what I call my GTO and I thought I saw a similar name on the ls2.com forum site.

I found the same problem. I would weigh myself at random times on saturday and find I was making no improvements. I started being more strict with when I weigh myself and started seeing more accurate results.

Cut out carbohydrates and cut out sodium.
"Everyone thinks they're on their way to single digit body fat as soon as they see a blurry four-pack in the right lighting.Your final body weight at 5-6% will be a lot less than what you think.Talk to me again when you get in contest shape." I'd be willing to say that 95% of people on this forum accomplish nothing in years, don't be one of those people. It's sad, they seem to have the knowledge many don't but can't utilize it.

I weighed myself right after waking up, and then 10 minutes later after I took a crap and pissed my morning urine out. I lost a pound of human waste in just 10 minutes. I bet on some mornings, it's closer 1.5 or 2 pounds...that's when my toilet hates me...

Water retention definitely throws off the scale. Sunday I always have a cheat meal and the next morning I will be literally 3-4lbs heavier when I step on the scale, but once I resume my normal diet, I am back down to my normal weight within 2-3days.

Drink lots of water. There is also a process of drinking lots of water, sodium loading and then removing salt completely and drinking only distilled water. It takes about a week, but it will give a you a short amount of time with very little water weight. As soon as you drink water after that point or eat it will come flooding back.
