    Thoughts on Hampton bumpers

I have an opportunity to buy some Hampton bumpers at auction tomorrow and was after some thoughts or opinions about them. For anyone that isn't aware, they seem to be pretty cheap bumpers as they are only iron plates with ~1in thick rubber material around the outer edge.

They are not bumpers and not meant to be dropped.

This is very true! If you don't plan on doing the O-lifts or variants which lead to dumping the bar then they would be a decent buy if you can get them for pennies on the dollar. They would be fine for squat, bench, dead and other similar movements.

Are u saying that they are not bumpers at all, or, that they are absolute rubbish bumpers and shouldn't be dropped because of that?

They are not bumpers. They are rubber encased iron plates and should be used in a similar fashion as a cast iron plate.

No. They're not encased at all. They're simply an iron plate with a thick dense rubber outer edge. They're marketed as bumper plates and unsurprisingly, have received bad reviews from what I've read. Has anyone here used them before?

On these the rubber is just there to keep them from clanking, not to keep them from crashing into the floor. They are pretty and if I could get the for $0.30 per pound I'd be interested.

If you regularly drop those plates, the rubber edge will eventually break off, your bar will eventually bend, your floor will get damaged.
