I powerlifted in HS fairly hardcore and took a few years off in college, now I'm in vegas in Grad School and have been into bodybuilding. I'm pretty jacked (5'10", 220 lbs, ~11% bf and cutting), but I'm WEAK compared to even what I was at 17 (almost 24 now). I've been transitioning into powerlifting but NO ONE does anything close to powerlifting at my gym. I can count the guys who I see squat on one hand and don't recollect more than 2 DL'ers besides myself...ppl give me crazy enough looks when I do 3 reps with 375 on DL, I can't imagine if I brought chains in!
Does anyone here powerlift in Vegas (preferably henderson), or even know of any PL gyms? Any info/advice is appreciated.
Edit:
Not sure what my maxes are exactly, but here are some ranges:
Bench 280-310
Squat 380-410
DL 420-450
Note that I did more than this in each lift 6-7 years ago and have just started doing power-type routines, so I think these could all go up 10% pretty quick.

Where exactly do you live? I don't know of anything in Henderson--though "Henderson", much like Vegas, is such a broad and scattered district that it's hard to say. I know there exist at least a few places in vegas that have decent bars, bumpers, platforms and other PL gear, but you'll have to do some digging around for ones that aren't based out of some guy's garage.

Awesome. It's a few miles further from my place than my current gym but almost the same distance time-wise. Still looking for someone near (loosely) my stats to train with though...I'm somewhat antisocial and I barely talk to anyone at the Gold's I go to now so not sure where to go from here. Thanks!

I live right by the auto mall too. The Sandhill Gold's is about the only powerlifting gym...or more like they have a separtate section for powerlifting. I train out of my one car garage. I dont have much. And looking at your size, I doubt I got enough weight for you. (450lb...about 500 if I start breaking out the weird 11lb plates.) One of the guys I train with now and then use to train with the group that trained at Gold's. There not as many powerlifters there as there used to be. This town isn't really big on powerlifting. Mostly bodybuilding.

If you do get a Gold's Membership the Gold's on Buffalo and Cayenne is a good one as well (not very close to you though).
They have dumbbells up to 150's, a single 180 lbs DB for rows, two power racks, some boxes for squats / deficit work, and a number of strong guys who train there. I was there last week visiting family and saw Jay Cutler walking around the gym.Pro Strongman & Former National Champion

Over by 215/gibson
It seems like a lot of us are in that area. I am looking for a team to train with. I have a 24 hour membership and a golds. I am more of a bench press specialist but I train all areas. I am lucky enough to be friends with Scot Mendelson he comes into town every other week or at least once a month and we needed guys for heavy shirted bench. So if any of you guys in Henderson or Las Vegas are interested in figuring out a day and place where we can start training lets try to throw around ideas. When Scot comes into town we go to Flamingo and Sandhill Golds. So once a month or maybe more we can train there with a legend in the bench if you don't have a membership I think they charge like 10 bucks. But the other weeks of the month we can agree on the best place to train. My name is Eric I am looking foward to getting a good team together.

I've been here 35 years and the aforementioned Gold's is the only non-garage gym that had a decent powerlifting area. I just started training again--I'm going to ClubSport Green Valley. They have one squat rack, one power rack, one good bar(I donated it when I moved to a house with a smaller garage). I'm there at 5:00 am at least M, W, F. At that time, there's no one curling in either rack, & no one to complain about chalk.
Compared to the other Globogyms it is expensive, but they have a locker room where you can actually shower & steam without your **** getting stolen & a bunch of other crap(tennis, raquetball, blah, blah, blah) I never use. Dues include up to 3 hours of kid care a day while you're at the gym.
Also, since the Sporting House closed, I think it's the only gym with a bar(this does come in handy). You can get a guest pass free online.
PM me if anyone's interested. I'll be the only guy in the power rack at 5:00.

I have a powerlifting home gym just off of Valle Verde and Windmill (Valle Verde and 215). We have all elitefts equipment such as bands, boxes, racks, safety squat bar, Texas power bars, glute ham raise, kettlebells, etc. We also have bumper plates and oly bar for weightlifting (I train with Broz when I can make it over there. If you are into oly weightlifting, he is the man to see). Let me know if I can help. Ricky

Just so that people know since there has been a ton of crap written about John Broz and Pat Mendes lately, John is one of the most giving and coolest guys I have met in the weightlifting world. A couple of years ago I made a post on another site about oly weightlifting in Las Vegas. Not only did he get in touch with me, he would come over to my house every Sat. and teach me how to do the lifts and wouldn't take anything in return. He just loves the sport and is willing to do anything for someone interested in getting stronger. Like I said in an earlier post, if you want to powerlift, I can help you. If you want to olympic lift, John is definitely the man to get in touch with.

To be honest I hatted Shirted bench and thought if any lift wasn't RAW it was lame and just a ego boost. I have only trained in a shirt once but I definitely felt it made me stronger. The extra weight you are able to press I feel helps and a couple areas. First the extra weight helps build up bone density which cant hurt and it definitely overloaded the top half of my bench. The next week I did some raw benching and everything felt lighter. I can see how mixing in shirted bench can push through sticking points raw.
