Need a QB? SF pple, will Alex Smith be starting?
In a 2 qb league.
sanchez is my backup but both him and farve have the same bye week, so I will be without a #2 QB.
SF has a sick matchup that week @ Tenn.
SF fans, anyword if Alex Smith will be starting??

I haven't read any reports yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did.
He looked great in the second half yesterday, and his only slip up was the pick on 4th and 10 with 35 seconds left in the game.
I am currently trying to pick him up in my league as my backup. QB's went really quick in my league. I have Carson Palmer (feels good man), dropped Trent Edwards for Chad Henne, and am trying to get Smith now.

I wouldn't pick him up imho, the guy had the starting job locked up for a few years and couldn't produce crap. One game =/= good upcoming season. The Niners are a run first offense and only passed the ball because they were down by so much. It's your decision but don't say I didn't warn you.

In Alex's defense, he never had a healthy shoulder before this season. Now it's surgically repaired and 100%. Also, the playcalling was run first because of the limitations of Shaun Hill's arm. They bring Alex in and - voila - run the spread. I honestly think Alex won himself the job yesterday.

i would pick up ryan fitzpatrick before i picked up alex smith.
if smith was that good, he wouldn't have lost his job in the first place.

No, the play calling is run first because it's what Singletary has been talking about since he was hired. Remember Smith and Hill battled for the job in the pre-season with Hill looking the more effective, thus landing it. Here is a quote at the start of the season before they even knew who the starting QB was going to be.
Quote:
As the Bears attempt to construct a model for success for the 2009 season, new San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary refers to a proven method for winning that he learned during his experience in Chicago.
Singletary says his template for reviving his sub-.500 49ers will be the Bears teams he played for during a Hall of Fame career, including the Super Bowl XX team of coach Mike Ditka that featured running back Walter Payton.
?In Chicago we developed a nasty offensive line that was physical at the point of attack,? Singletary said. ?And we had a defense that was pretty nasty. It is going to take a little time to develop that [in San Francisco]. But running the ball, to me, is extremely important. When you need to run, you have to look at that offensive line and say, ?OK, guys, here it is, let?s go.? ?

Alex Smith is awful, but it never hurts to ride the hot hand in fantasy (even though this is a strategy I usually advise against more conventional thinking).
Who else is on the waiver wire?

Smith has been named the starter, so if you can get him I would. To be honest i'd start him over Sanchez in some cases. Sanchez doesn't impress me at all, he can't throw the deep ball, and when he is under pressure he makes poor decisions.

There are NO other starters available on waivers in this 20-man league I'm in...You start two QB's and I have Eli and Shaun Hill. The only starter available is Smith, so I put in a claim on him and dropped Hill. but I'm #20 in waiver order and I'm about to get fukked royally.

The ONLY other starting QB is vince young (and who even knows with him).
I NEED a qb for week 9 with guys on a bye and sf is playing Tenn.
My only concern would be if he was still the starter then...
