SPOILERS Rothwell/Cain and Sadollah/Hendricks

Both these fights were stopped in the same exact way, both controversial stoppages. I think the referees need to be instructed that fighters, while trying to stand up when they're near the cage are inevitably going to have to take some shots before they can separate and regain composure. Does anyone else see the parallels in the way these fights were stopped?

REgardless Cain would have likely beat on rothwell some more, but something is wrong with refs stopping fights while a fighter is in the process of standing up.

In mazagatti's defense, he warned rothwell that he'd stop it if he took too much punishment in the 2nd round.

Thoughts?

Did they? I just watched it again and didn't see it. I thought he looked fine. Although, he might have looked fine because mazzagatti stopped him from taking more shots.

Very different situations.

Sadollah was dropped in a very awkward fashion with a crisp clean blow, he was obviously conked out at some point, whether he even though with the luxury of slow mo replay we can see he had probably sort of snapped back to clear thinking at the exact moment of the stoppage, either way, he was NOT intelligently defending himself, he wasn't covering up and halfway to his feet when the ref intervened like so many people seem to think he was. He MIGHT have still been in the fight, and ideally it would have been nice to see a bit more action, but I can't fault the ref TOO heavily for it all.

I guess Rothwell and Cain... well.. if you watch the 5 seconds on either side of the stoppage then yeah it was pretty ****... But Rothwell was getting mauled, he had no REAL defence at any time and the fight was totally slipping through his fingers. The beating he was taking was pretty substantial, and really a lot of the time it was on the brink of "Stop, he's got nothing left". I can't be too mad, we'd all seen enough, Rothwell was out of the fight I don't think there was anything else to be put on display. Sure the exact moment it was stopped was iffy, but meh.
