One thing.
SHOGUN said he backed off a bit at the end as his corner said he was a clear winner. If he had tried to finish it, been less cautious could this have changed things?
From watching it. For me not knowing about scoring etc.. I thought SHOGUN looked like the more dominant fighter. I am a big fan of the dragon, but I thought he was outclassed by the power brought by SHOGUN.

Big Machida fan here, but the fight just soured the entire evening.
I was heartbroken to see Machida losing in the bottom 10 seconds, but never, ever, even for a split second did I even contemplate that Machida could have won the fight.
If I was biased in favour of Machida then I would have him 48-47 in Shoguns favour, but that's very relaxed scoring in favour of a champ... Shogun did more, more effective things.
Not to say Machida did nothing. His hands were somewhat effective in each round, and he landed a few BIG knees. In round 3 I think it was he managed stay in the pocket and throw some shots at shogun which I think gave a whole lot of people a raging hard on, but Shogun pretty effectively countered and forced Machida straight back onto the defensive. Shoguns leg kicks were the biggest and without a doubt most effective strikes in the fight. I mean on a few occasions Machida actually changed stance to protect himself which in the standup game is the absolute last line of defence, makes judges cringe and makes the opponents corner roar with anticipation. How some of you people think he controlled the octagon is sort of mind boggling to me, he spent most of his time being chased down AND, and I simply CANNOT stress this enough, being punished. That's not elusive, it's just being on the defensive. If you're moving back and coming off second best in every exchange then you aren't a counter puncher, you're just losingAussies Pwn All Crew Oz Enhanced • *ShaGGs* • Fiky • Wylde • Pro Lee Priest • Nesa • TheDeepBlue • mikeccccc • ryan_james • ajzoot • irongrasshopper • RockyVI • Pro Luke Wood • Goofxta • Milimber • dts1789 • thickmass • Benji Snap • G_Train • mickey_b08 • no limits

The only offense Machida did was the flurry at the end of the 3rd round but none of his shots really landed cleanly. Shogun was executing his game plan on Machida the entire 5 rounds of the fight. So basically shogun worked the body and leg and landed the most damage and Machida wins because he counter punched with no real damage at all. I don't think he won by much but IMO Shogun definately won the fight.

i dunno. i just watched it this morning. no commentary. I had it like this.
Round 1 and 3: Machida. id say round 1 was convincingly machida
Round 5: definately shogun
Round 2 and 4: umm....? i feel like these two rounds werent convincing for either so id say split them
Machida wins 3 shogun wins 2.
Shogun definately looked great but machida was able to stuff every takedown attempt, and everytime shogun landed something (aside from the numerous leg kicks) machida answered right back. I think its pretty decieving because shogun just looked better. He didnt look hurt or anything but id still have to give it to machida.

I had 2 Rounds Shogun , 2 Rounds Machida , And 1 Even. Am i shocked That Lyoto Won? Yes and No. I was thinking if Machida did win by some misjudging that it wouldn't be Unanimous, i mean if Machida won u gotta think that it was Split, but i have a hard time believing that ALL THREE judges scored it in his favor. But, unlike most i'm not pissed for the reason being that, i don't think Shogun is good enough to be called a champion in a stacked division like the Light Heavyweight division. Machida is a better fighter in my opinion and yes he might of lost yesterday, but i don't think Shogun decisively won either, at least not enough to take that belt away from Lyoto. IDK, but i doubt a rematch will happen for some reason. But i'm happy Shogun isn't champion, but i'm not happy with Lyoto's performance either.

If you refer to a fighter who you've never met in real life as "my boy" as though their performance somehow reflects well on you for simply being a fan, you're a lame ass.

Fightmetric actually changed a ****load of their numbers.
But anyways:
Headshots
Rd 1 - 2 - 1 RUA
Rd 2 - 1 - 2 Machida
Rd 3 - 9 -6 Machida
Rd 4 - 1 - 1 Tie
Rd 5 - 7 - 1 RUA
Overall 17-14 RUA
I also never said that automatically wins him the fight, I was just replying to your comment about how no one takes Machida's headkicks into account, when in reality they did not land that much to begin with.

I rewatched the fight for 3rd time, there is no way Machida won. I think everyone here can agree that Shogun won the last 2 rounds and that Machida won round 3. Round 1 was close but Shogun was outstriking him and pushing the action and round 2 was won by Shogun in the last minute by delivering tons of knees.

It is universally well known, that in digesting our common food, there is created or produced in the bowels of human creatures, a great quantity of wind. That the permitting this air to escape and mix with the atmosphere, is usually offensive to the company, from the fetid smell that accompanies it. That all well-bred people therefore, to avoid giving such offence, forcibly restrain the efforts of nature to discharge that wind.

The only round Machida won was round 3 and even then that round could have gone to Shogun because when Machida supposedly had Shogun "hurt" up against the cage, both fighters landed good shots in the exchange only Shoguns was harder and cleaner than Machida's. Round 3 was a pity round if you ask me for Machida. It's not like Machida completely stole it.
If you judge this by North American judging standards. That would be the only round Machida takes
Shogun took every other round, the 4th round being the most decisive of the 5.
Aggression- Shogun
Striking- Shogun
Octagon Control and Ring Generalship- Shogun
Winner- Shogun!
There is no question who won this fight. The Fans know it, the majority of Machida dickriders know it, Ed Soares knows it, Dana White knows it, even Machida knows it.
Which is why an immediate rematch is being arranged so quickly. Close fights DO NOT get immediate rematches the day of said close fight. This fight was a robbery. Plain and simple.
