About to start MMA, need tips plz?

Hey everyone, i have decided to get into MMA because i want to be a police officer in a very rough city. It seems it would be a good addition to my arsenal of skills if i was well-trained in martial arts. I have worked out for years, so i have a good amount of muscle, i would say im in shape strangth wise, but alil out of shape cardio wise. If anyone can give me any tips or links or anything that would help me get a good start with MMA i would appreciate it.

I had some questions if somoene could answer for me?

1. I am planning on being in the MMA gym for about 3-4 hours a day. (2 for actual martial arts training and 2 for weightlifting/cardio) is that a good idea? i know i can handle it because of my fitness routine i had lifting weights and doing different things on the track. But i want to know from the views of a martial artist.

2. Can i still build my body muscle wise while i train in martial arts?

3. What should i expect the first couple of weeks?

4. Should i get in a very strict diet to help?

Any workout routines or advice will help.

Thanks

i think alot of it depends on your physical conditioning at the moment. beware though, there are always guys who come to our gym thinking they are in shape. only to find themselves gassing out and breathing hard 3 minutes into a match of half way through practice.

my advice is to start slow and see how you like and how your body responds. trust me 4 hours of training is brutal! especially since you plan on training mma and lifting/cardio the same day. it might be wise to do mma one day and then lifting and cardio the next day and alternate.

strict diet? depends on you. with that amount of physical ability i would make sure your body is getting enough calories. quality foods do help.

building your muscles? a nice body doesnt win fights and doesnt determine how good you are in mma. for lifting, we do sport specific excercises and lots of eplosive lifts.....my favorite are power cleans.

you might find training everyday will be very tiring and you can get burnt out. worse case, overtraining usually leads to injuries.

yes to all your questions. you might want to make a bigger diet plan for yourself, since youll be burning more and youll need the energy.

I might get some food in there (carbs) between workouts or during. Eat a huge meal before it all as well. Yea you can do it

You cant build muscle without a calorie surplus. So yes you can but you will be burning a lot of calories with MMA and weightlifting so make sure you eat enough. Mess around with your diet and see which one feels best.

3. What should i expect the first couple of weeks?

Hella tired, lose water weight, better shape.

4. Should i get in a very strict diet to help?

No need to be super strict. What exactly are your goals? Make sure you eat clean not ****ty.

you will definitely have trouble gaining weight and muscle.. How much trouble depends on a lot of factors like how hard the gym is.. I was at both AMC and Quest and they kicked our ass..

just work you a** off and do whatever they tell you, might want to rethink a 4 hour session just starting out the workouts will prolly be harder than any you have ever done before. especailly if your cardio is in question. get your wind up and make sure you can finish your workouts strong before you do anything else.
