The area where I'm from was invaded by many people including the Arabs, hence the Southern Italian dark skin and dark features. Maybe those 'arabs' who call themselves Italian, are actually just from the south of Italy lol.

No really, Im very serious. Although, I'm not good on video camera, I find it intimidating and oppressive. Maybe I'll do a step-by-step guide with photos. Stay tuned, I'll go and buy the ingredients on Monday.

I really think most Italian men generally like playing with their junk. You'll find them doing this in pretty much any public situation. I don't do it in public, but there's nothing better than watching a movie and playing pocket tennis.

And Tom Waits, one of my favourite artists of all time. My Grapefruit Moon listen count must be in the high thousands.

You're not completely correct, but I've seen better looking girls than Monica Bellucci here in Italy.

As far as I know, quite real. A lot of real mobsters are into it. Apparently an FBI bug revealed high ranking mobsters, during a meeting in a New York hotel, talking about the Sopranos.

Because Milan jumps on all the bandwagon trends, eg. Starbucks etc., and because it's a novelty here in Italy, they price it accordingly.

I've always had a long standing interest in Italian culture. It has an amazing and beautiful history. I've thought that I'd like to move to Italy when I'm older, what are your pros and cons of the country and would it be difficult for a foreigner to fit in?

A cornetto is a type of 'croissant' usually with either chocolate, cream or jam inside.
I have left-over pasta the next day and it's not bad. Obviously it's millions of times better when it has just been made.

No racist, but are you white? If so, you'll have less trouble integrating. Unfortunately, our current government has instilled a climate of xenophobia and intolerance.
The pros are that it's a beautiful country, with mostly good people, and rich culture. The cons are that working here (career-wise) is a nightmare. Even CEOs are unprofessional idiots. Also, nothing works as it should, including public transport, public offices etc. People can't be f*cked to work properly, government services are comparable to African countries.
I hope this all changes when they throw Berlusconi in a cell and melt the key. I'll keep you updated.
edit: let me give you a personal example. I work in advertising and few months ago I got done working on a Renault campaign. The advertising agency I did this work for owed me money for it and I had to chase them down like they were a crackhead, to get my money. If I hadn't caused a sh!tstorm, they probably would have never paid me. I also did a 1,000 US dollar job for National Geographic Italy, and they still haven't paid me after nearly a year. This kind of sh!t happens every day here. I literally have to go around threatening lawsuits to get paid.

Is it really hard to get a job there or are my cousins just retards? I'm not even talking recently with the bad economy im talking like the past 6 years. The jobs they do get only last a short time too and they have to wait.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am white.
The government services and the professionalism seems pretty disappointing, but I suppose I can always live there when I'm retired.
Thanks!

It's very hard to find work if you're not connected and it's very hard to get a contract. Most jobs offer you a maximum of 1 year contract, and even that's a blessing. Your cousins are like all the young people here, jobless and pissed off. That's why I chose to work freelance.
|
I think I remember you saying your cousins are in the South? In that case, I want to add something to this which is very important. 'Desperate times call for desperate measures.'
What I mean is this: If your cousins don't find work, they will more than likely one day be approached by someone asking them to do a 'job' for them. STOP RIGHT THERE. A lot of kids are desperate and will do anything, especially in the South of Italy, to be able to make a living. When these people approach you, you kindly refuse and let them know that you respect them but have other ambitions. You NEVER get out of those kind of things here, NEVER. You end up in a bodybag or in jail. So tell your cousins to be wise and not to give up hope. If anything, tell them to gtfo of Italy and move to a more prosperous country. We are in the European Union so we can work anywhere in Europe without a work permit or visa.

That's your best option. When you retire, buy a house in the countryside in Tuscany or in the mountains in Trentino. I can't think of a better way, other than the caribbean islands, to spend my retirement.

Let me guess, you heard this phrase being announced in the metro trains right? "Uscita lato...destro", "Uscita lato...sinistro". Which tells you on which side of the train the doors will open at the next station.

That's right, and I like the public transportation in Rome, cheap as hell. 2 euros for the whole day!
During my trip from Rome to Pisa by train (it was one of the cheapest intercity trains I guess), I encountered lots of Indians (or Bangladesh?) carrying shtload of luggage. It's like they are carrying around their goods to be sold. Does it happen alot there?
