we did flat bench, dips and thats about it lol
went well, first set I took all out and got 405x6 almost 7
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2_6EQvAayw
second set we worked on form and leg drive/stability and got 405x5
last set more technique work and hit 315x15

the width you see in the vids is my normal bench grip. if I do what i consider close grip I move them in about an inch.
what you should do really depends on your own body....how wide your shoulder girdle is, arm length etc....
but for the most part, a closer grip is generally easier on the shoulders. Also, do you see how my elbows are tucked kinda close to the body, not all flared out...that will alleviate shoulder issues for lots of people

I like your form. Are you doing a a body building bench style? I noticed that your hip isn't on the bench and your feet aren't planted flat to the floor.
I like to know because I am working on my bench press form again after 3 years not doing flat bench press due to shoulder injury.

that is much more of a powerlifting style bench. Foot placement is one of the things we were working on. in the 405 video, i was on my toes, i need to be on my heels...which is very hard for me to do and I need practice with it
my hips arent on the bench because I have a huge ass lol....take my word, Im in full contact with the bench
a typical bodybuilding style bench is where the elbows are flared out at 90 degrees or so, the elbows dont really get tucked at all...theres a big difference in the amount you can lift using the two styles...you can lift more and its safer using a PL style

Insane strength man, inspiring me on the bench next time. But I had a question about your form. You said that if you do somewhat of a closer grip and the powerlifting style you can do a bit more weight and such but, will it still build up a good/nice looking chest or? Thanks man and good luck

thanks petey! It surely will give you what you seek for chest development. You are still using your chest and triceps as the prime movers for the press, just using a safer pattern for the joints and tendons

Oh that sounds good. Because I have been getting this sharp ass pain in my right shoulder due to some injury I had on it years ago and like it seriously feels like a knife is jabbing through it sometimes when I am on my way up. It hurts like hell. But I will take a look into trying to do this, is there any instructional vids on this type of form you could provide or something, I guess I could youtube it if anything lol. Thanks again man!

Petey, i think the best way would be to search you tube for powerlifting bench vids and try and mimic the form. There may be some instructional vids, but I dont know...Ive been fortunate enough to learn first hand.
Heck, i may do one myself...its been brought up quite a few times
