Have you heard of these plates before?
The company is called Tag and they're based out of Mundelein,IL. I have someone that has these but I really know nothing about. This is their website( http://www.tag4fit.com/index.html) but not much information that site. Should I just not think of any more of trading my plates and getting these?
These are the exact plates:

Has Alex run out of his other plates he has been selling?
That is where Direct Fitness is based from, and they sell some of their benches/ab benches. Wonder if there is any connection.
Their racks look pretty decent.
What kind of price is Alex charging for the plates, and are they rubber or urethane?

I agree, to an extent. Weight is weight. That's all you need to get stronger.
The argument to having nice looking weight is the pride it gives you in your gym. No, I will never show off to females and I could care less about my boys thinking I have nice plates. But as it is, everytime I go to my gym, I look around and think "Sweet". If some nice plates add a little extra sweetness and help keep me motivated because of the eye candy, then so be it.
The other arguments are safety and durability. Those grips definitely keep a person from dropping poundage on their feet. I dropped a little 5# plate on my big toe and had a bruise under my nail for 6 months. The day I trimmed the last of the bruise off, I did the exact same thing. There was no real damage, but it was a solid reminder of the need to be cautious. As to durability, rubber and urethane will keep them in good shape. There are no worries of rust and you won't need to repaint. The painting I did on my current plates turned out well, but I'm in no hurry to do it again.
Ultimately, it's a preference thing.
And hardkore, I think those look good, and I like their warranty. I've never seen them before, so I can only say "cool"!

Yes, he did run out of the other plates. I got all my Ivankos from him. I'm probably going to keep the Ivankos though. They're gym beat-up and I like that look.
And Ira, you wouldn't understand... It's a disease...

i popped into my old gym for a drop in workout and they had new weights all over the place....beautiful york gripper plates that looked very similar to those. here is what i noticed....they were really wide. the bars couldn't hold more than 5 plates per side....so i was at the end of the bar by the time i had 4 plates and a 25 on each side.
on a positive note...i have never used a whole bar up before....those plates sure make a guy feel good.
stick with what you have.

They are all made in china, just with different molds for different companies. Get the cheapest tri grip plates you can find, they all weigh the same. Some companies just overprice their plates.

I'm not big on grips. I was just wondering if anyone else had them. I'm keeping the Ivankos.

sorry dude, not true. there are many levels of steel and steel mix and machined vs pure cast and power coated etc. Also, the weight can very as much as 4+ lbs on some of the ****ty plates. May not seem like much till your 315 bench is only a 293lb and you fail. Rubber coated, Urathane coated plastic coated etc. Not only from selling equipment do I say this but the core of my home stuff is Troy Inter-locks (very nice) but I have some Troy VTX, Hampton, Ivanko, york and black iron crap from Sports mart. You do not need to pay 5 bucks a lb to get nice plates but there is a huge differance between many brands most of all what you like.

Agreed that all plates are never spot on for weight. But he is looking for rubber coated tri grip plates. All I'm saying is that most plates are made in China or Taiwan and brands like Ivanko overcharge because they are a brand name. It's not too difficult to find out who manufactures for what company.
For example. Ivanko imports for least these two companies

Sure cheap plates work the same way, but they also still suck because of the terrible QC. I have to put my CAPs on a certain way or else they don't even fit right since they're not flat, and it's a huge time waster if they get out of order and I have to remember which goes on first. I can't stand CAP plates.
As for replacing all the plates with the ones in this thread, I wouldn't. They look dumb.
