Just wondering if anyone with more knowledge about pro bodybuilding than me can help me with a quick question. When pros get heavier in offseason why is it they seem to gain 'hard' fat and not the wobbly sh*t i seem to gain. I have a couple of ideas about it but is there anyone who can give me an insight into this?

i am far from pro so i dont know lot about their preparation, but i dont think any pro gets really "fat" in offseason
only fat pros i can remember were lee priest and mybe dorian lol
i think they just got huge water bloat and a bit of fat but not too much

Obviously a pound of fat on a 23 inch arm will not affect the appearance of it as much as a pound of fat on a 15 inch arm. Thats why they appear leaner but still shed so much bf pre contest. Area of dispersion is alot larger. Also the muscle itself is so developed that they still display more separation even when holding an equal or greater amount of bf appose to us smaller guys. Also blood vessels are much bigger so they can look more vascular at higher bf.
Always blows my mind to see these guys at 300lbs claiming they will lose 30-40 lbs in contest prep, when they look so ripped, almost like they could compete that day. Thats gym pics and vids of course, on stage they'd be pretty smooth.Sudbury Ontario championships july june 11 2011 - 5th light heavy weight class
London Ontario championships nov 26 2011 - 2nd heavy weight class
Next shows - Missisauga championship May 19th and Ontario championship June 2nd

yeah i think its big mistake when people go on "dirty bulk" where they are covered in fat
i think that when you dont have visible abs - you have too much bodyfat
everyone who calls himself bodybuilder, should have visible abs, even in bulkin phase
fat is no good, you can see that almost every bodybuilder have visible abs even in offseason, so dont say "who cares about abs i want to be huuge"
yes you will be huuge... fatLast edited by Gosu; 10-19-2009 at 07:47 PM.

None of them really get above 10-12 percent in the offseason. They do get a lot of bloat but that's from the heavy dosages they take. So that's the reason for them not having visible abs. It's the heavy water retention.
It's also because they're coming off a 3-5 percent body fat. After a contest at that body fat, it's gonna take a long time to put on some good body fat and then another contest around the corner. So to go from 5- 15 percent body fat would be a gain of 20lbs of fat which takes a long time. The lee priest photo was overhyped. He did that for muscletech. He ate a bunch of high fat foods with high sodium, drank a lot of water and pushed his gut out. He was around 15 percent in those photos.Last edited by asbrus; 10-19-2009 at 07:51 PM.
