myofacial release...holy s*** was that painful
Don't know if anyone has gone to a massage therapist and had a myofacial release session, but I literally paid to be tortured. I have very tight IT bands, hamstrings, and quads. I was sweating during the whole hour.
I do have to say however, that after it was done, my lower half, hips, and low back had never felt better! Well worth the money. Range of motion increased, less stiffness, and an overall feeling of well being.
I think I'll get this done 1x per month. It cost me $60 w/tip.

If i promised you that i could get your IT and etc tightness all released in about five - 10 minutes, no drugs no pain all just you moving,
if yes, we can do a video session and
a) you won't have to see me again after cuz you can do it for yourself
b) and you won't have to do manual therapy for this again as manual therapy can only last about um 40mins or so for chronic-ish stuff - because of how it works with one's neurology.
unless of course you like the pain
best

Self stretching is important but sometimes the adhesions are so embeded that self stretching won't work, Like the IT band or scalenes.
So it depends.

When I went to a chiro for my lower back, she applied what she called the Graston Technique. It was like being worked over with a small tire iron. I've also done the myofacial release stuff with a foam roller, but never had it done to me by someone else. You make it sound like fun.

I try to get a massage every other week, last one she went deeper than normal and it felt great! Not sure what IT bands are, my lower back and glutes are always a problem for me. Also have knots in upper back from stress. Well worth my time and money for it.

Just an update...this morning was quad dominant day for me. It felt like I was able to go deeper, with less forward lean than prior workouts when doing squats. Weight wasn't any different, but range of motion seemed better, and felt better.

The fact that the weight felt the same at a greater range of motion is a good sign.

I'm very familiar with that the doc at work does it as well as teaches courses on it, graston has helped my tendinitis and other issues as well.
Great technique.

One of my chiros is recommending that I have the MUA procedure done. I was going to do it last year but I backed out. Now I'm considering it again.

may i offer just a little bit here:
MUA means you are unable to participate in the movement and that this is completely manual therapy - there is no real learning opportunity for the nervous system from this site of issue work.
may i suggest that there are options of simple movement work that you can do for your self that can help.
what can i offer you folks to help make it feasible to explore self-movement that triggers far greater neurological response as an option to manual therapy which does not?
Remember the definition of insanity: doing the same thing and expecting different results.
i have a feeling rhinoclan is right and i'm not doing a great job selling this
so please let me know how i could help you to try these alternative?
best
