Well this is my senior year so I wanted to go out with a bang
Wrestled at 215 sophmore year, but was mostly fat so I got "man-handled" more or less
Junior year went 171, but a certain "Stephen Mcpeek" (recent all-american, recruited onto olympic team at 17 this past year) was in my district, so only got 3rd in districts
This year I'm going 160, and so far I have no doubt I'll be making it to states
As far as preparing goes, I know I've spent the past 8 months cutting weight, overall fat %, getting my endurance up, aswell as strengthing my core and practicing non-stop to get as much out of my last season as I can, hell even made Captain this year, so it's already paying off, haha

Nice work dude. This is going to be my second year and I'm going for 160. Last year was on JV so I don't know what exactly my long term goals are, I'm just going to keep working my ass off in practice and keep drilling.
As for preparation I've been cutting some fat for a month or two and I've been doing endurance workouts (I'm liking the deck of cards even though I'm not great at it.) and some running. I also started camp about 2 months ago so that helped a lot.

I recognized Mcpeeks name first, and then noticed your from texas. So am i. Ill message you personally.
For me.
Was on Jv last year, and did pretty well. Several placing in tournaments and wins.
Ive trained hard, went to Iowa state for 21 day camp, trained with some friends and open mats, lifting hard.
And now we're heading into season. We've been having open mat, today we had extra practice afterwards for 4-5 guys who are a little more experienced, so im dead.
Im hoping to qualify for Region and come away with a couple of wins. State is on the horizon for next year.
And im hoping to go either 180 or 189. We'll see.

Currently on my 4th year wrestling, walked onto the top ranked NJCAA team .
Redshirting this year due to the guy I have to beat is a NJCAA champ. Going to my first open tournament this Friday .
Anyways starting out the season 174lbs , I'm hoping I'll be able to make it without cutting the day of, currently after practice I can only get down to like 178lb . The first day im allowed to go 165lb is Nov. 21st so I'll probably try and do that.
Funny cause last year in high school my minimum weight was 174lb when I weighed 184lb naturally ..... This year I was 194lb ( already dieted down 10lb) at certifications and my minimum is 163.8 (5% bf)
Anyways though, college wrestling has been great so far. Everyone on the team is good and its made me good. Pretty much everyone in the room is a state placer or champ, and then we have a few All-Americans, its a big change from my high school team which had 1 state placer and 2 that placed Top 8 in state. Also I never went to state, I got screwed over senior year at weigh-ins with only 2 matches left to qualify .
Anyways I've been dieting since probably late August started out 204lbs currently down to 176lb ( morning weight ) , I trained with a free wrestling club over the summer that met twice a week and competed in US Army Midwest Nationals . The weight loss feels great I feel like I can run again without getting back spasms like I got when i was 204lbs , plus my GF doesnt mind the extra definition if ya know what I mean
Anyways good luck to you all, work hard and do what you got to do .

i plan on competing at 152, 161, and 171 lbs this season. I've been making my lifting sessions more intense and adding an extra (at least) 20 minutes of cardio to every workout i do.
also, ive been keeping the dreaded food log

well i was going to go 135 but i found out I was type 1 diabetic. now i am 155ish probably go 160 cuz 152,145, and 140 are taken.
Last year I weighed 140ish and had to wrestle up to 152(varsity) 6th at Sectionals, High School Intensity Award Winner, Letter winner.
I guess you can say it was a ok freshmen year for wrestling seniors....worked hard in off season. Well see where I can go this year.

last year wrestled 145 and 152 at around 10% body fat. this year i bulked up to 155 11% bf and cut down to 142 at 6% bf. either gonna wrestle 145 or gain couple more pounds and wrestle 152.
its my senior year and have gotten a hell of a lot stronger. i know i can make the top 16 to qualify for regionals and my goal is to make states and to not get pinned at all.

Last season I wrestled as a 215 that had to step up to 285 for most of the season. I wrestled 215 for my districts and region. I was close to making it to states. This season I want to wrestle 215 and place 1st for both my district and my region and possibly place at states.
For the past 8 months I went on a bulking/cutting phase. I bulked to around 250 and I have cut down to about 215 over the course of about 2.5 months while retaining most of my strength.

Thats the problem you are starving yourself and its probably not even competition time for you yet .
Just cut off around 250-500 calories a day, work at practice , and drink plenty of water.
When you dehydrate your body retains water keeping more then it needs in itself, when you starve yourself your body stores more fat when you do eat to prepare itself for the next fast .
Also when you are dehydrated you can't expel toxins ( piss, and poop ) ,thats going to keep weight on you also. The average american has like 5lbs of **** constantly in them I read somewhere
So yea, cut off some calories. When you are taking in calories try and get them from the simplest form possible (example : Apple > Apple Juice > Apple Cider > Apple Pie ) .
Don't worry about water weight until 3 days before competition . 3 Days before drink like 2 gallons of water throughout the day, this will overload your system with water and it will try and flush it all out of you. 2 days before drink 1 gallon of water so your body still has stuff to flush out . The day before drink only as much water you absolutely need, your body is still thinking its going to be overloaded with water so you are still going to piss alot this day. The day of weigh ins dont drink anything until after . Don't try this on your first competition do it a few times so you can actually see how your body works with this , some flush water better then others .

good advice. the basic idea is don't take in the "extra" calories. or don't drink calories.

It's my senior year and i'm planning on going 140 and my goal is to place top 4 in state
last year i got injured right before the post season and couldn't wrestle, but i was ranked and co-capt of my team. As far as prep for the season over the past 8 months, I went to Ken Chertow for about a month over the summer and I've been wrestling for 5-6 days a week for the past month of or so and prior to that it was 3 days a week. That and going to lots of offseason/preseason tournaments.

I've tried to do this before and it seemed to me that while drinking over 2 gallons of water a day for a few days prior to weigh ins my body retained alot of additional water weight (about 10lbs), and then when I reduced my water intake to about nothing the day prior to weigh ins my body had to expel all that excess water and i pretty much only made it slightly below my original weight. Do you have suggestions of what i might have done wrong? I think I'm going to try again this weekend at a tournament. It maybe just that I need to try again. Any advice is appreciated.

What weights are yall going? I weigh 164 right now, but will wrestle 160, and move down to 152 and possibly 145 depends on fat test.
Hopes/goals for season? Make it to state, had a decent record going into last year but impetigo ****ed me over TWICE, once in middle of the year, and then again at conference and couldn't wrestle regionals.
What youve done the last 8 months to prepare? Lifting Every other day, sometimes every day, cardio a couple times a week. Also at every well this summer.
Senior year, need to redeem myself but my team is pretty much a couple of really good individuals, and everyone else.

Well, Im kinda new to this also only done it a few times
But were you hydrated for a good 5-7 days before you started overloading your system with water? If you weren't that is probably why you retained so much because your body was still trying to hold onto it for the next dehydration period ( which would be a few days from that time ) .
Also you gotta cut out some sodium too, not too much cause as athletes we need it. But sodium will probably keep some water on you too.
I did this last week for my first college tournament, while everyone else was dehydrated that whole week and practicing like **** I was well hydrated felt great and was able to practice harder because of it.
Sure my weight was a bit higher and everyone thought I wasn't going to make it but when I started cutting out the water 2 days before the weight just melted off, that last practice the day before the tournament I wore all my sweat gear to try and sweat out all the rest of the water I couldn't pee out in time . In the end most team members were still a good 3lbs over AFTER practice and I was 2lbs UNDER ...... This was probably the most awesome thing ever, Means I can go home drink 2lbs of sports drink , and have 2lbs of cereal (Total brand ) + milk , this is at around 7:30pm btw
Which would put me 2lbs over in the end, but hell ill probably burn a 1lb off between staying up for while go walk around the mall or something maybe and sleeping. Then if im lucky ill pee out the other 1lb the next morning, weigh in at 7am and im feeling great. Unlike everyone else who either had to continue cutting and not eating that night , or having to cut that morning of wasting valuble energy for the tournament
