That's easy, the HDX 16! I'm using my new HDX 18, but even bare bones, it's over the $1000 mark, otherwise, I'd pick that.

google the entire Gateway FX Series.
All roughly under $1,000 and have 8800 gt's and up. Epic gaming laptops.
I've owned both the p-6860 FX and p-7811 FX
Epic

i heard that laptops are about to drop in price due to the fact that most people now just buy cheap netbooks and laptop sales are hurting.

You cant get a good "gaming" laptop for under $1000. You cant even get a good gaming laptop for $2000. Youll be needing a desktop or youll be spending $2500 minimum if you want to be able to have a good gaming laptop.
If you want some pos that can barely play old games, then maybe youll get away with spending 1500.

Yeah 1000 for a gaming laptop wont get you much, if that really is your budget get a Xbox
i prefer PC games but it wont be cost effective in the long run with games with that laptop budget.

Asus carries a ton of great gaming laptops that are well priced.
Gateway does too, and then the Toshiba Qosmio series.
HP is starting to get in the game but they just haven't put a high end video card in yet.

Your laptop sells for $1500 which is outside the scope of this thread.
I hope you consider high settings to include a 1920x1200 resolution. Which even for the cheaper monitors will cost you around $300. So you built a computer for $500 that runs it at high settings or are you just leaving out all other components? Either way, OP was asking about a laptop.
You didnt say what fps you get either.

for under a 1000 i would say the HDX 16/18...you can get it under 1000 with bing cash back... right now they have 25% not sure how long it will last though... or the dv7 or dv8t fully loaded... pretty much the same thing as the hdx
