P.M. Dawn
LL Cool J
Black Label Society
Pearl Jam
Disturbed
Widowmaker
Godsmack
Joe Satriani

i like everything from led zepplin and pink floyd to psytrance. i have very diverse taste in music. i used to do 250 sit-ups every weekday morning (in my teens) and 500 on weekend days... i did them to either iron butterfly's "inagodadavita" (long version) or the who live at leeds "magic bus" (long version).

It's funny, even in the over 35 section, that I don't even recognize half the bands listed!
I like a band called Flogging Molly for when I am doing squats. They are sort of punk Celtic, and it really revs me up.

Listening to Waylon, Willie and the boys? I grew up listening to that stuff with my parents. It's the only country I can stand. The classic stuff.

Put it on the XM station with the old show tunes, that'll really get em.
They will beg you to put the country back on.

Seriously
can some of you slightly younger guys help me out?
Cardio can be done with any music, but when i lift, I need something a little more hardcore, not rap.
Any suggestions, techno, metal, or what?
If you don't mind, supply some group names, so this old fart can find them on my itunes store.

My musical tastes range from old school blues, jazz, classic rock to punk and metal.
Currently my ipod has a lot of heavy stuff on it to get me pumped for workouts:
Metallica
Pantera
Rage Against the Machine
Tool (where my screen name comes from)
AFI
Black Label Society
One King Down
Hate Breed
Minor Threat (good local DC hardcore)
Pennywise (great workout music)
10 years
Stone Temple Pilots
and many more!!!!

I've actually heard of some of them, I'll check it out.
It's amazing how much easier it is to lift something when you are a little bit angry from the music!
My Gold's plays the absolute crappiest weight lifting music.

They're old, but I still think Queen "Another one bites the dust" and Horslips "Trouble with a Capital T" are great squatting music.

I have a home gym, and next door is my cpu. I stream Sirius through the the 5.1 speakers I set up and keep it pretty much on channel 32, Reggae Rythms.
Mellow stuff seems to help me keep form and breathe better than headbanger stuff.

I like hard rock and guitar oriented stuff for lifting: Michael Schenker Group, Ramones, Motorhead, Stone Temple, Kings X, Racer X and Paul Gilbert, early Sabbath, early Priest, lots of NWOBHM
Suicidal Tendencies' The Art of Rebellion is, I think, the ultimate training album to listen to all the way through. This is not the I-Saw-Your-Mommy ST this is straight up power metal with wall to wall great riffs and not a weak song to be found. This is the one with Nobody Hears and Gotta Kill Captain Stupid. I still get off on it and it's like 15 years old. You will need serious PCT after listening to this.
For cooling down, stretching and cardio I like 70s AM pop.
You know what would be a great idea for a gym is to have a good CD jukebox instead of the insufferable ****-noise they usually play. They could have a variety of stuff in there, they could rotate the discs periodically, everybody could have a say and they'd even make a little money. It's not a perfect solution but neither is the this-is-the-crap-the-front-desk-person-wants-to-hear-take-it-or-leave-it deal they have going now.

My iPod's got almost 900 songs in it ranging from America to Zeppelin with most everything in between but my favorite workout music is smooth jazz. Seriously............I focus better with some kick arse non-vocal music than with rock.

laortiz- Blowing stuff up is cool!
I have to say, the last thread like this I caught was in the Female section and these playlist are way better than some of the "girly" ones I saw there!
I have to admit, I've been on a "gangster"/"underground" rap thing lately- I'm gonna go see E-40 play next month in Tahoe, getting in the groove I suppose! So lately, It's been E-40 (duh), B-Legit, 2 Short Mac Dre, & Andre Nickatina. I'm also into almost anything from Suburban Noize records- Potluck (opener for E-40), Kottonmouth Kings, Subnoize Souljaz, Shaggy 2 Dope... Also listen to(just not for a minute) System of a Down, Korn, Limp B,...

I guess my Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Three Tenors, Glenn Miller, Baha Men, Barry White (don't ask), or Chumbawamba mix wouldn't get much respect around here!

Oh my God! I can't believe you mentioned Paul Gilbert with Racer X. I have been listening to them since Paul was 16 years old when they put out their first album "Street Lethal". I listen to them and play along with them (I play the guitar constantly) and work out to them as well. Man am I feeling old about right now.
