Back squats have been sucking lately so I gave my nervous sytem a break and did some high rep work. I did 265x16 yesterday, it was pretty easy. I vaguely recall that 265 was like my 8RM back in November so that's pretty good progress. I have no idea how ftwrestler does crazy **** like 225x47, I don't think my legs would give out but my cardio blows. It sounds unimaginably not fun.

I am thinking that this could be a weak lockout position. I had a similar problem for a while with heavier snatches where I could pull the bar up but when I caught it, it would just sink through and I would miss the lift or have some arm rebend and then press it out again.
I started doing snatch grip push presses and that fixed it.Strength + Speed = Power
If you never fail, you aren't truly pushing yourself to the limit. If you never push yourself to the limit, how do you know what you're truly capable of?

There are some strong/good lifters that stop, however most good lifters will tell you it's bad technique. In reality it's just wasted motion, because you need to pull your feet from the floor to stomp them down. The more contact you have with the ground the better because it gives you feedback and stability.

it's been a rough weekend and haven't checked this lately. What so bad about not using the hook grip or whatever? Will my lifts magically shoot up 400lbs or something? Is that why my snatch is really weak?
EDIT: I'm finna do the hook grip today when I lift, if I don't clean at least 400lbs I am calling shennigans on it.6'0 249 @ 18 years old in AVI

You need to work on ur snatch
Technique shmechnique.
Akkaev, Bellini bedini (whatever the **** his name is), and rybakou all stomp. Ironically they all have the highest snatches in their respective weight class ( one in training two WRs)
A good 94 lifter I trained with who learned under charniga told me to stomp if I could too.
That said when it gets super heavy I don't much.Last edited by schabowy90; 03-11-2013 at 05:53 PM.

Yeah, I do. Honestly I think I know why it's so low now, and I think it's because I was just using a regular grip. When I switched to hook grip today I felt like I engaged my hips and had about 300 percent more pop in the lift than before. I'm feeling a snatch PR tomorow.
thank you hook grip
its like my whole life has been a lie up until this point.6'0 249 @ 18 years old in AVI

I'm going to do some research on my own but what are the good oly lifting programs? Right now I basically go to the gym 3-4x a week, and do maybe 10 reps total on cleans, including warm-ups, working up to a max. Occasionally I'll do a weight near my max for 6-10 singles. I have a program for all my other lifts, just not the olympic ones.

catalyst athletics websites have some good programs. some specific to things such as grip strength, squat specific etc.
check it out http://www.catalystathletics.com/art...hp?sectionID=8
i'm doing the starters one at the moment but I'm also working on mobility like crazy (mainly opening the hips) because it's not letting me lift properly lol

Im sure FFF is always busy either lifting, making women sexy, or playing the guitar, but he himself and the environment around him is a wonderful resource for learn weightlifting programming. He is the reason i am not a crippled mass on overuse injuries and improper lifting form. Even though i pretty much have a bachelors in exercise science, olympic lifting programming is a whole other world. I would PM him and he will probably hook you up with the knowledge of ivan rojas, and dr harrera's knowledge on training cycles.

I use this thing and an iphone app called mobilizeme http://www.allthingsgym.com/mobility101/ I have a stretchy band, compression band and foam roller
do you reckon 15 minutes a day of mobility work is enough? (3 areas and 2 minutes a side)? and how long would it take until my mobility is good enough? Or did all of you have the mobility before starting weightlifting? I'm spending like 30 min a day now.
had a 3 hour lab today and knees cramped up because I had to stand up the whole time :| I think it has something to do with my IT and hip rotators, working hardest on inside and outside of the hips at the moment
