Decided to start keeping close track of my baseline work capacity in the front squat/back squat, not just 1RM and multi-rep PRs. Baseline work capacity is the amount of weight I can make on any day of the week, no matter how tired/in pain/hungover/sick/sandy vagina'd I am or how many exercises I have done previously in the day. Today would be a good example. I went to Takano to train and was supposed to do snatch pull+snatch, clean pull+clean, snatch high pull, push press, front squat, but I took so long snatching and cleaning that I ran out of time to front squat before Takano closed up at 8 pm, and I was tired and my joints were fatigued and I had a lot of sand in my vagina, but I told Takano that I would go home immediately and finish the workout by front squatting. So I biked home to Caltech gym. I didn't think I could put up jack**** **** all in the FS today, but I managed 295x1, and it wasn't a huge grinder. fuk yeah.

Takano says the Soviets conducted studies and found the ideal Back squat:C+J ratio is 131%. So for example, a lifter with a 200 kg BS should be able to C+J 153 kg, and vice-versa. A 145 kg snatch with a 200 BS is ridiculous. He also told me the behind the neck push press should be directly related to the clean and jerk as well. So when I mentioned that my BTN push press PR was 102x5 he pulls out his phone calculator and plays around and then says "you should be able to C+J 146. And when you are more balanced, you will".

Aren't you pretty close to 131%? I'm not sure where Takano gets his BTNPP number from. If I could C+J 146 then (by the same formula) I could BS 191, which I can't, yet, which means my upper body is stronger (relatively) than my lower.
If you think about it, it makes sense that top guys will deviate a lot from this number, since the study was conductedin the 70s, drugs have improved a lot since then. Drugs have a significantly greater impact on squat #s then C+J #s because the C+J is going to be dependent on RFD/vertical jump, which is extremely genetic to a depressing degree and much less amenable to influence either by training or drugs.

That is indeed a sick snatch ratio.
That BTN Push Press comment is a little odd but I guess it could make sense. I however love to hear that that exercise is so useful as the BTN PP is one of my favorite exercises of all. The ratio however I find hard to believe since I got pretty much the same max on the PP but that C/J figure is my front squat max so definitely not something that I´d be able to put overhead and not because of lack of technique but just pure lack of strength.Strength + Speed = Power
If you never fail, you aren't truly pushing yourself to the limit. If you never push yourself to the limit, how do you know what you're truly capable of?

There are ratios for everything. The Soviets also believed that your back squat should be 72.7% of your total, and that if it was higher, you're leaving kilos off the platform. At the end of the day these are just loose guidelines. Everyone is different, and everyone gets the bar over their head in different ways.

Honestly if I wasn't time constrained I would have worked out for 3 hours.
My squats got cut short so when I got home I set up my home gym and squatted a **** ton. That's how amped I was.
"Too hard" seems like overkill but I completely understand what you're saying lol.
Surely I will pay for this.Snatch: 122

Trying to get HSBC to mail me my new credit card so I can pay Takano, it's mind-blowing how incompetent and unhelpful they are.
Me: The package containing my new card was FedExed on the 28th and it still isn't here. Do you have the tracking number?
Them: I'm very sorry sir, but we've lost the tracking number.
Me: How do you lose a tracking number? It should have an electronic invoice.
Them: [Some bull**** about the order being placed by a different bank call center, and they don't communicate with each other]
Me: Well, given that the package should have arrived a week ago, can you please ensure that you FedExed the package to the correct address? What is the address you have for me on file?
Them: I'm sorry sir, that information is confidential.
Me: *Throws phone across the room* Go **** yourself with a rusty cactus.

Speaking about home gyms, I gotta get started on mine. Had to call it quits with Takano today... They wanted me to sign a $200/mo, 4 month contract... can't afford that kind of moneys anymore. Last day is january 25
that $800 + gas is enough for some econo bumpers or an eleiko training bar... Which I'm going to wind up buying anyways. Still going to do some drop in sessions with coach every now and then though.

yeah dude I started at $120/mo, then went to Takano's and payed $150/mo, but now they want $200/mo which is just too much for me. Pretty sure CalStrength is even more, and Podium Gold even more than that lol. I can definitely say however that I learned MUCH more than I would have if I wasn't coached to start.

It is pretty outrageous. However, given that I am only here for five more months, and I also happen to live 2 miles away from one of the best coaches in the US, I want to extract as much coaching, knowledge and improvement as I can before I graduate as is humanly possible. When I do graduate, I will join the Canadian crew, which hopefully means spending a great deal less money to do the same thing. Actually, spending a fair bit less money in general. No longer pouring away an outrageous amount of $$ to attend university. Being a Canadian citizen, being a grad student in Canada is effectively free.
The new contract not only stipulates the price increase, but it binds you for four months with a 50/month fee penalty for early cancellation (that fee would go on top of the charges that would be there for the remaining months). So now I have effectively signed on to be coached by Takano (or at least, pay for being coached by Takano) until the start of April.
