Even though I'm getting much stronger, I'm still having trouble with what should be REALLY simple parts of the main lifts and it is holding me back. I think part of the problem is ****ty body awareness, as in, I wasn't aware of the problems until I reviewed the video:
-Back heel doesn't leave the floor on the split of the jerk. That's not good.
-STILL do not extend enough in the clean which is why I tend to catch it too far forward which is why it is harder to stand up with than it should be
-^Same in the snatch, but worse
-Plenty of excess pull power, I don't move fast enough. I wasn't even aware of how high I pulled those cleans (I mean, they were light cleans, I never got a chance to go higher because it was closing time, but still)
I feel like I have the strength to do 110/135 but I still need all that **** to click. I think one of these days its all going to click and then boom.

They have some gayyy rules about 'no photography', no bags allowed in the gym. Problem is enforcing them isn't 100% serious and considering I was doing it with NOBODY else in the shot it pissed me off. The staff can barely tell people to follow the rules that DO matter like not using the olympic bars on a bench and power rack. One of the 5kg technique bars permanently bent because people were using it to deadlift. I told the staff there TWICE that day and still they just let it happen.

Damn, it would have been awesome if Jon had hit his 166 training PR on the stage. His antics would have been legendary.
EDIT: Damn, that 188 looked easy, but he asked to follow himself with 189. I guess he doesn't need to go higher.
EDIT: Why does he keep revising his request? I've never seen that before.Last edited by jb4476; 12-01-2012 at 08:21 PM.

its a timing thing bro. usually, to give a lifter more time, the coach will make them do it kilo by kilo, so it will stop the clock each time. giving them a little more time. If they get lucky they have to change more than the "change plates"
D'Angelo looking impressive, with the increase in weight class. I bet he can get to Ian Wilson's lifts as a 94.

Have you ever been to a meet? If you follow yourself, there is an automatic 1kg increase. If you request a load change, they pause the clock, so it gives you more time if you have to follow yourself.
General rule of thumb when competing is always low ball your opener, that way when they call you for your first attempt you can just bump it up and have more time to warm up and prepare. The best Weightlifting forum on the web:

I would have thought so as well but some guys simply insist on jerking from the very tips of their fingers, like this guy (came in 3rd in this years World Masters in Weightlifting):
Bouncing out of the hole is the easiest thing in the world when it comes to just plain squats but I'm having trouble carrying it over to the full lifts.
That is amazing and is definitely the heaviest power clean video I've ever seen. Can anyone find a heavier power clean video? I've read that one's best power clean should be close to 90% of their best full clean so the all time superheavyweights should be doing something close to 230kg or so but I haven't seen any videos.Strength + Speed = Power
If you never fail, you aren't truly pushing yourself to the limit. If you never push yourself to the limit, how do you know what you're truly capable of?
