Ohhh... Well then in that case I don't think it's a big deal. Standing with a snatch should be a piece of cake, and taking the time to stand up and then drop and reset for the second or even third rep is time consuming and wastes energy for the important part of doing dubs or trips. At least that's my opinion.

Already doing snatch balances, also full snatching 2x a week so I'm hitting rock bottom overhead squats 3x a week.
Yes, been eating and sleeping well. Though when this fail of mine happened, I'd been snatching for a while with very heavy weights so I guess I had some fatigue in me.Strength + Speed = Power
If you never fail, you aren't truly pushing yourself to the limit. If you never push yourself to the limit, how do you know what you're truly capable of?

TBH I think the main reason they do that is because if they drop the bar as they stand up with it, you can catch it at your hips and waste less time re-adjusting between reps. If you stand up with it completely, you kinda have to drop the bar and then redo your straps. If you don't use straps on multiple reps I guess it would make more sense to stand up with all of your reps.

how are your jerks so much easier than your cleans
TELL ME YOUR SECRET
got absolutely crushed b squatting 150 yesterday, I don't think my legs have been this weak since june and yet I'm still hitting weights in the classic lifts on a regular basis (if by regular you mean the one day a week i can snatch + cl&j) that I would have been lucky to get on a good day in mid august when i was my strongest. Da ****? One more week and I can start oly lifting regularly again.
**** just weighed myself and Ive dropped 5 pounds

I think I just have short arms man. My cleans suck so much though so it is not like my jerks are that great, they only seem that way in comparison. I have probly missed less than 4 or 5 jerks ever since I started split-jerking (I tried power/squat jerking for the first month of weightlifting).

If you don't count press-outs or dumping the bar after a clean because I am about to pass out, I only remember ever missing one jerk. It was the first time I did clean and jerk triples and I missed the last jerk because I was exhausted. I remember it because I essentially never miss jerks. If I can clean it, I am 100% confident I can jerk it.

I actually prefer Aramnaus look tbh. maybe its cause im about his height, and wouldnt want to look overly muscled and jacked and be so short if i ever got 200+. prefer the muscle fat look.
also its cool that hes an elite lifter, but looks like a fat kid, and reminds me of this

Does anybody else train at a mostly powerlifting-specific gym? As one of the few who primarily focus on weightlifting in my gym, I sometimes feel like a minority there and that the PL bros look down on us.
Which got me thinking... what would the top-tier weightlifters total if they tried their hand in a powerlifting competition? I'd have to think some of them would total over 2,000 lbs which could put them up there with any of the strongest powerlifters on the planet. Conversely, does anybody think Stan Efferding or Eric Lillibridge could snatch 200 kg?

this is my new gym (Y)
scarboro youre welcome to come lift too if you want but you lift at VV right? and thats much better anyways lol
my friend owns this gym, hes gotta make it a crossfit affiliate or else he wont make any money..... so i understand. hes made a little weightlifting corner for me and a couple others who actually weightlift. which includes a platform, jerk boxes, blackjack bar, and rogue comp plates that are coming but i have all the other stuff to play with too lol
thats actually really funny because i feel everyone looks up to weightlifting. everyone knows that powerlifting is just a raw static strength 'event' (lol not saying sport) where as weightlifting/strongman requires finesse. i hear most people rank it from strong man > weightlifting > powerlifting. pretty much anybody can do PL but WL and SM has that skill component that PL seems to lack.
inb4 ****storm and negs.....
there are some retired weightlifters that have gone into powerlifting and they do fine except they do the lifts differently. benching is pretty much the same but squatting and deadlifting are different. theyre so used to squatting highbar atg that they do the same for PL, which 'hinders' their potential but its the way they perform the best. same thing for deadlifts because they dont deadlift and our clean set up is different from the deadlift.
misha is one that comes to mind who does all 3 sports
most powerlifters will have a hard time switching to weightlifting because theyre too used to using their upper body strength and will often press out on the classic liftsLast edited by LudiWithKnives; 11-04-2012 at 01:45 AM.
