When in Rome...
Hi everyone. I am going to Rome in about 10 days and the place I'm staying does not have a gym. I'm going with a tour group and we'll be sight seeing for a majority of the day, so I'm not sure that I'll have much time to scope out a gym. Should I just stick with body weight exercises for the week or just give it a rest?

Give it a rest and come visit me in Milan! :-D
Hehe, joking....um, well, how long are you holiday-ing for? I would honestly just embrace the fact that you're visiting a beautiful city, unplug the socket while you're there, and focus on enjoying the trip :-)

Ahh Roma... lovely city! Enjoy the sight seeing, you will be doing lots of walking YOu could always get up early and go for a stroll if a park is near you and do bodyweight exercises, then you can enjoy your day - the coffee gelato is bellissimo!! Just watch the bread and cheese... ahhh italian food... divine.

I'll be there for 7 days. I'm not concerned about missing cardio because of all the walking, but I am concerned about the food and not being able to track my cals. I put on weight very easily and have a hard time taking it off - at least lately I do!

I don't know about everybody, but when I take a week off, I don't lose any strength and manage to up my weights on most of the lifts.
And how much fat can you gain in 7 days, if you will be burning a ton of calories by walking?
Enjoy your trip and have fun, it's only a week.

I actually ran into this problem back in March when I went to Rome and Venice. Unfortunately it is very very hard to eat clean and not spend a TON of euro doing it. They aren't a big protein based country, obviously. So I went to the super market and stocked up on basic foods as much as I could rather than buying meals. Beware though, it is very expensive so don't buy on the streets. What hotel are you staying at? I stayed right near the Piazza Navona. But honestly, I walked about 5-7 miles a day so I didn't gain much at all. (and I ate like pizza, pasta, and all the dark chocolate gelato I could find) I would take the week off and completely enjoy your time..just use portion control and speed walk.
I also checked on getting a gym membership, but it was pretty far from my hotel and very expensive FYI..

I'm not really staying at a hotel; I'm staying at the Generalate which is the Brother's world headquarters. I'm going going with tour group from my old college and that's where they usually stay. I'm bring nuts, kashi and south beach bars with me for snacks but I'll just have to make do for lunch and dinner. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for the tips Yeah after looking at my spelling.....I butchered both of those.... Sorry BouncingPuka......lol But I do know how to cook both of those and they sure are yummy I am trying to work on my poor spelling let alone my ability to speak fluent Italian. Especially because most of my fiance's family lives there, well in Mola di Bari, not Rome. And we might be moving to Italy in the next couple of years.
Hehehehehehehe, not a problem! :-) And I'm 130% positive that you do them justice in the kitchen! You'll get to the speaking part in no time.....I've heard that Italian isn't that difficult to learn (I wouldn't know personally, since I never actually LEARNED it.....I'm just naturally bilingual (tri actually) since I was really little, and you know how kids absorb languages like sponges :-) I'll be glad to have you as a neighbour! Ok, Mola di Bari...not adjacent to Milan.....but hey! :-D
Buonanotte to all, almost midnight here and I'm POOPED!

Also, pleas go to "Da Baffetto" it is a small pizzeria but AMAZING! They place is always sooo busy there so get there early. (Italians eat much later for dinner, which is so weird to me) and also Gelateria Giolitti, BEST gelato I found in Rome. Amazing dark chocolate gelato, I wish I could go back just for that. haha have fun!
