Swine flu - DISASTER!!
Day 5 of Swine Flu. Eaten virtually nothing for three days. Now slowly getting my apetite back but I've lost all my weight I've put on since my bulk began two months ago (approx 5-6 lbs).
On the days I couldn't face eating solids, at least I tried to chug down a protein shake with milk and kept taking Orange Triad and my EFA's. That must've helped, but I feel weak and today I've tried to get my eating patterns back to 70-80% normal.
I'm gonna try and start the gym again tomorrow with some decent nutrition inside me first.
Thought I'd just share the frustration, because there's probably many of you who have been through this (certainly with normal flu) and probably many more will come the winter.
Z.

All you did was lose water, and lost to the point of being dehydrated. Sounds like what can happen with a bad cold. Move forward and watch it all come back within days.

you can't undo two months worth of training in just 5 days. it might be a little setback, but I doubt you're back to square one. you're probably still feeling the effects of being sick.. once you're back to normal again, you'll probably notice you didn't lose as much as you thought.

You're right dudes. It must be water and the stuff that was in my system that is no longer there.
Trouble is, when you're feeling weak, you look in the mirror and the bag of **** staring limply back at you doesn't give you much joy.
I was just worried that as I wasn't eating anything, extreme catabolism would kick in and eat me alive.
Question. How long can you be without food before your body starts eating itself?

if this is a "DISASTER!!" to the OP, hate to think how he'd react to a ruptured tendon

you planning on starving yourself? if you aren't, why stress over something that will never happen? Just stick to your eating schedule as best you can and do your best not to overthink and over-react to a few missed meals

I think I had the flu a few months ago. I was pissing out my ass for a week and I literally passed out one night due to fever. Woke up on the bathroom floor in a pile of sweat. i probably should have gone in but I fought it off.

Stop stressing out. You have the flu, which is serious. Rest and listen to your body. If you feel weak, don't push yourself. Your muscle is not going to disappear in a few weeks. Let yourself get healthy. Then hit the gym. You'll bounce back in no time. Take it from me, if you push yourself while you're sick, you'll just get sick again.

Yeah, you're right, maybe the word is a bit strong when the effects are fleeting compared to serious injury.
My bad.

I would say that at day 6 my eating has gone back to about 80% normal (still can't stomach oatmeal in the morning and I've eaten that every day for years) and I'm left with a hacking cough.
I'm gonna try some light training this afternoon and see if the cough doesn't get in too much way.
Thanks everyone for the replies and support!

You were severly dehydrated. Make sure you are getting your fluids. Years ago, I had an upper resporitiry infection. I thought simple cold , popped a few cough drops and kept working out. A short while later, I got the special gift of kidney stones due to the dehydration.
Save a visit to the ER, heal and ease back into the work out. Hope you feel better soon!
