A brilliant picture captured before the lens was destroyed.(Shuttle launch)
Quote:
|
The particular setup for this was sound activated. The lens was destroyed (worth it of course) but the camera survived this one despite being severed from its ratchet straps and thrown to the ground, and the sound device used for this one disconnected from the camera and thrown about 200 feet backwards into the pad perimeter fence (still worked!). All settings are preset manually. No one is allowed closer than several miles from a launch.

A stunning way to die if you choose to be that close in person.
p.s. Thanks OTL.

lol @ this
were I to gaze upon this image in a magazine, at a gallery, or in discussion with civilly responsible members of society, I would remark about the quality of the composition, the technical expertise required in order to assemble and configure the equipment to capture this shot, or the dedication of the photographer demonstrated by his willingness to risk his tools in order to record this image.
But this is the internet, so...
'shopped.

Of course. Hence the 'fog' milling around launch sites pre launch.

1. The fact that it takes a tremendous amount of knowledge and skill to set a camera up to take a picture like that with no faults.
2. Applying that knowledge and getting it right in one shot knowing a camera worth well into the thousands will be destroyed.
3. A view of something that a human will never be able to see (You'd liquify a few organs being that close to such force then probably burn to a crisp depending on distance)
4. Its just a rare sight.

Just looked something up: "Relatively small tactical missile rocket motors have nozzle exit velocities on the order of Mach 3.5 with recovery pressures of 300 pounds per square inch and recovery temperatures in excess of 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit."
Small tactical missiles get up to 5,0000 degrees fahrenheit. I think steel is basically a liquid at that temperature.
They probably have to use some kind of composite material, maybe carbide or ceramic.

Was not serious.

my uncle works for a company that designs rocket systems/landing ****/engines/everything and he showed me this crazy video of some **** they had tested, the flame of a booster engine had icicles forming around the edge that were pretty big, and literally a couple cms away was a huge blue hot flame...one of the crazier things i've seen. dude is pretty smart to say the least
