Sharp pain around the neck, shoots up into the middle of the back of my head

I have found other posts in this forum with similar problems, but none really contained any useful info.

Last Wed I was doing sets of light back squats after deadlifting, and all of a sudden I had a sharp pain on the right side of my neck which shot up to the middle of the back of my head. It lasted about 10-15 secs, the went away. I was able to finish my work sets.

Then on Friday, I already did a few worksets of bench when I moved onto incline DB when towards the last rep of a set (when pushing hard) it came back, again for 10-15 secs. I was yet again able to finish my workout.

Then today upon orgasm (srs) it came back again (way to kill the mood, lol). I don't know what's going on, I don't think it is serious as there is no pain if I move my neck around it only seems to come about if something intense is going on. Any ideas?

Wierd.. I just got home from the gym and was about to make a thread about this same issue.

It's the first time I've ever gotten this pain. I was doing lateral raises and I felt the same sharp pain you described around the bottom of my neck on the right, and it shot up to the middle of my head. It was very quick, 5-10 seconds, but it was such a wierd pain. Felt almost like an electrical shock.

Not trying to hijack your thread but same issue so I thought I'd post here instead of making a new thread. Any info would be great.

Sounds pretty much like exactly what I had. I know what you mean by weird; it's not pain in the traditional sense.

One thing to rule out here is a cervical spine problem. Specifically, stiffness in the upper 3 segments can give rise to the sort of headaches described. A functional xray may reveal poor mobility of the spinal segments here, but a good physio with manual therapy skills (or a chiro) should be able pick this up as well as treat it.

thesprakly1 makes a good observation about mobility.

may i ask you guys complaining of shooting pain (usually hitting a nerve) what kind of regular specific full body (every joint as in) mobility work you do daily or before your sets?

if this seems an unfamiliar concept, here's an overview of why mobility work may be important (link).

...do you feel any numbness of tingling? Does that pain go down your arm at all?...may be a nerve issue, maybe a pinched nerve
