Nitrate is NO3
Sulfite is SO2
Sulfate is SO3

and ions of a negative nature of course end in "ide"

If you can remember the symbols, you can remember the numbers. And there are patterns; someone already mentioned them. Just write them each down a few times, you'll remember them easy. Or do flash cards.

yes, but only the symbol names are on it, not the full names

Beryllium lost 2 electrons that it gave to oxygen, therefore it has a charge of positive 2, which got a charge of negative 2.
Because they were oppositely charged they attracted eachother

things that interest me are easy to memorize and usually come naturally, i'm better at understanding concepts than simple memorization

lol, he hated em as well, concepts i can handle, like for my 4 digit alarm code to open my garage, i cant for the life of me remember the numbers, but i CAN remember the first one, then i have to double it, then double that, subtract 4, then add two + the number of primes the first number is divisible by (used random numbers)

prob too late but theres a system for naming them that isnt too hard (deals with the common ion that forms and then depending on if theres less oxygen then normal or more oxygen then normal the names all follow that pattern) here dug it up for ya
