Attention Yankee Fans: Twins beat Greinke to tie Detroit for Wild Card spot!!

Yankee fans, hold on to your matchup: the Twins today did the almost impossible ( lately) by scoring 4 runs off the unscorable Greinke of Kansas City to pull into a tie for the wild card for the stumbling Detroit Tigers.....


with one game to go in the season, if Twins win tomorrow, they are guaranteed a one game elimination on MON........

hey, I look at it this way: if Detroit manages to win tomorrow and the Twinkies stumble, it would kind of be like Detroit backing into the Wild Card by the skin of their...you know what......making it ( hopefully ) easier for the Yanks to win the series.....


but if this miracle continues on SUN, then, the Yanks may instead have to face a ravenously hot Twins team, with MVP candidate MAUER, who now stands a great chance of beating out Texeira for the MVP award........


this is an unexpected development.....we have seen several wild card teams with fabulous momentum go all the way to the WS.......case in point: Colorado the year before........

so, instead of being a gift series ( Detroit ), Yanks may have to face hottest team in baseball right now!

The Twins are an amazing story year in, year out. BUT, with the salary gap in MLB we have seen what it really comes down to. This would be what, the third straight trip to the playoffs in which the Twins faced the Yankees? Do you really believe it will turn out any different this time? Reality is the Twins are a good team, great story, but that won't matter against a loaded Yankee's team.

Small market fans get their joy out of penant races. And quite honestly I can only shake my head every time I see a Yankee fan post like this, they should be expected to win in no uncertain terms. Every other major pro league has a salary cap that keeps things on an even playing field and thus fun for all, the lack of a level field in baseball is a large part of why football has long since taken over as America's favorite pastime!

I don't begrudge Yankee's fan's thier joy in watching their team, but there is more joy for me in watching the past few weeks, not only have the Twin's played over their heads, but then to see Chicago come through to help keep the race alive, good stuff!



Edit: One final note, the Twin's may be the hottest team in baseball but because the schedule is set up for season ending divisional games they have not had to play any really good teams. Do they really scare you? They shouldn't!

yes, JACK, it is really for the title......but in any case, as pointed out, they ended in a season tie and today will play a one game elimination playoff.....

I wonder if ESPN will carry this game?

because of an NFL football conflict, the Twins-Detroit game will be on TUES, 6PM EST on TBS, I believe....
