What is this riffraff, I believe that's the Daedalus-class deep-space battle cruiser in the first post sir.

If you liked Battlestar Galactica, you're gonna love Stargate Universe. So far, it's an exact duplicate of that series. Replete with cliche characters and amaturish shaky camera movements.
Get in here and fix this Skippy, this show needs your support.

I was a huge fan of SG-1 and Atlantis. How much will I like Universe? Is it a lot different?

From the little I've seen of it I think it'll end up being darker and a bit more serious than Atlantis (I never watched SG1)

SG Atlantis was a step down from SG-1. But from I see of this spin-off, it's more BG than anything resembling Stargate. I can't relate to any of the characters. What about you?

If you mean dark character, I agree. They even brought in a "Gaius Baltar" (they didn't even try to be original here) to play the part of the villain genius.

Its too early to tell about the characters, I guess it'll take a few episodes to see which characters are gonna have good chemistry with each other and gel etc. Too be honest I never even noticed there was a villain ??. I hope its a bit more Atlantis than BSG with regard to planet exploration as I thought BSG was a bit too claustrophobic.

K. So I've never watched an episode of SG1 or atlantis or any other show in this series/genre. Closest show that I've watched to a show like this would be Firefly, which I'm guessing is really far off. So my question is, would I be completely lost if I decided to try and start watching this?

Firefly was awesome, but it was more comedic than than the Stargate stuff. If you like scifi and space related shows I'm sure you'll be fine with SGU. Just give it a trial period of something like 3 episodes an see if you like it.

Looks good. Atlantis seriously let the side down in terms of plot development.

Nothing comes close to BSG except stargate itself
Both are unmatched in their storytelling, character development.
God what have I enjoyed these 2 shows, best sci fi shows out there for me. Hope to see universe has something good in store

just checked it out... wasnt bad... may keep watching a few more and see where it goes...
Is this series seperate from SGA and SG1..as ive never seen any episodes of those series...I saw them call the homebase and it was McGyver from one of the other SG series..... I did see the orginal stargate movie and the second one (i think there was 2 right)...but never saw the 3rd one... continium I think it was called...
so can I watch this series without having seen SGA or SG1 and still be up to speed as the series developes...???

No way I could answer that. But I would imagine the producers would affirm a resounding yes!
