We Totally Missed The Mark On The O
I don't know how many times people said that this year's O would be "epic." They couldn't wait for it because it looked to have some real good competition between the "up and comers" Heath, Green and Wolf. It would finally "prove" which fans had chosen the best one as their favorite.
So in a way, it was sort of a letdown. Heath miscalculated his diet, Green didn't show up rocking what physique we were really hoping for, and knew that he could bring. Wolf totally blew it.
1,2,and 3 spots were won by veterans, not to mention 6 and 7. In the pre-contest predicted rankings, most counted out Cutler and Warren. I know I didn't get it right.
Lesson learned: Don't fall into the hype bb.com posters try to build. Things can, and do, happen outside of anyone's expectations. Be open-minded.
Don't be a fanboy with an axe to grind if you don't win, full of rationalizations and butthurt attitudes.

Agree totally, I was considering starting a similar thread, but thought better of it.
There was so much hype coming into this year, people saying it was gonna be one of the most competitive Olympia's ever.
I must say I bought into it myself, Heath, Kai, Wolf, Dex, Jay all in the mix for what seemed to be a wide open competition.
I was rooting for Heath and was very disapointed with what he brought, Wolf looked awful, Kai didn't look as good as people were making out.
Dex was his normal consistent self, but no drastic improvements, Jay nailed his conditioning and deserved the win.
I guess the likes of Heath, Kai and Wolf can learn from this and hopefully we can have a really competitive O next year.

It was like Christmas...we all built it up so much in our heads that come the day we were left high and dry....
However, Jay turning up looking like he did was a bright spot and made up for the dissapointment of Kai, Phil et al not meeting our expectations IMO

you just cant let the hype get to you. the veterans nearly always show the up and comers whos boss in the olympia, it'll be the same way next year. everyone will be raving and ranting about someone, probably wolfe, and then get disappointed come olympia time

No one was off when they predicted this would be one of the best Olympias in years because it had the depth unlike any other. Sure alot of guys who were supposed to place higher came in off, but no one knew that when they predicted this Olympia being one of the best. If someone on here had said "This Olympia was the best in a long time" after the competition was done then they would fooling themselves because so many people didn't live up to their potential...but predicting it to be one of the best due to the depth of competitors was right on the money.
edit: and even though alot of people came in off the mark this is the first time in a long time where no one predicted the top 5 with any accuracy other then Jay winning and Branch, Dex, Kai, and Heath being somewhere in the top 5...that right there shows how close the competition was between #'s 2,3,4, and 5. In many years past it was quite predictable who was going to take which spot, but not this year...I liked this Olympia.

Heath didnt miscalculate, he was sick, night 1 and night 2 were completely different Heaths. In the finals I thought he was the 2nd best on stage. Im not a Heath fan either, just my honest opinion.

i think that the judges missed the mark on branch warren lol...
but whatever the rest of the top 5 deserved to be there.
at the end of the day i am a big Kai fan i like Heath and branch too these three are great personalities for bodybuilding.
Jays story was great regaining the title and all and comming in sharp as a razor. deserving his 'CUTS' nickname.
Dex unfortunatley outmassed a fair bit...
i have to say if kai's condition was about 20% better he deserved it but he put on noticeable mass this time around and hopefully he can keep that mass but slowly work on dialing it in.
i dont know how they are going to deny Kai an O if he brings his trademark conditioning
i am so proud of what he has done
AND impressed he has reduced the size of his waist and proportions!
although kai finished 4th i am still happy with what he brought and i believed in him 100%
i still think he should have been second to jay. but if jay forgets to bring it in again like he has in the past kai is going to end up taking his place IMO.
and one last time branch wtf

People were off but not too WAY off.
Kai still looked mindblowing on Friday, and Phil on Saturday. This is easily the best lineup in any O I've followed.

I was way off !!!
I had Jay Cutler at 3rd based on politics ( not expecting him to improve much on his conditioning)
Branch Warren - Definitely don't think he was 2nd more like 4th or 5th and before this he didn't even cross my mind !
Dexter Jackson - I figured he'd get 2nd which he probably deserved it anyway
Kai Greene - This is the only one I got right ! I didn't expect him to come in slightly off though.
Phil Heath - I figured him to win based on politics and his guess posing pics, If he had looked the way he did Saturday night the entire time he could've gotten 2nd mabey.
Vic - 5th or 6th, he didn't look as good as he needed to and his legs were lagging still.
Wolf - I figured him for 5th or 6th .........wow.

I'm not a Kai fan personally, I like Heath, but there's no one i'm CRAZY about.
Kai, just judging on NON grapefruit stuff...someone said it right, when he said, he looks like a mish mash of different body parts put together. The way he hits his frontal poses is fkcing weird to, the whole hands down in front then shift in the pose...wtf?
he has sick legs!! but i'm not a fan on the rest, big waist, sounds high all the time, etc...
and yes the O was kind of a let down...but great for Jay, REDEMPTION!

It's so easy to judge those who had an opinion WHEN YOU NOW KNOW THE RESULTS.
No one knew any better than the judges. Peopl derived opinions on what they saw and they have the right to do so. Most were close.
No one could have forecasted Wolf's conditioning problem.
