How hard do you have to push yourself to see results

I'm new to exercising in general. I usually aim for 3 sets of 8 on most machines to target most of the muscles on my body (I heard that a full body workout is better than isolated for starters)

But I'm not sure exactly what weights to use. Am I supposed to push myself as if my life depended on it? I would say right now, I'm working myself hard, but still within my comfort level. I don't know if that is going to yield any results in the long run though.

Pretend like your family is in a cage being lowered into a volcano and it depends on you to pull the bar to your chest 12 times consistently smoothly using only your lats otherwise they die.

I train also with 3 sets of 8, i just do the most weight's i can handle on the machine.

But not so much that i cant do anything else anymore because im so tired.

The best is do as much you can but also leave energy over for the other machine's you want to do
Sorry for my bad English, I dont got English at school.

    With kind regards,
