been sick, take a break or get after it?
I had the flu, and my fever broke yesterday. I'm feeling tons better. Doc put me on a Zpak 2 days ago. My question is, should i wait until I am done with the meds (3 more days), before getting back to the gym. or is it safe to kind of go through the motions, yet not push too hard. Its funny how once you get a routine going, how you crave the gym when you cant go.
I forced myself to eat, to keep from losing as much muscle as possible. I have always laughed at how people brag about losing 20 lbs when they are sick. when it is not all fat they are losing. any advice is appreciated, thanks

Lol, I was sick, I broke a fever...I went to the gym 12 hours after it broke.
I broke a sweat, My heart was beating, I got a headache, I ran to the bathroom,I threw up, I went home, I got sick again =[...I missed school for 2 days, 2 teachers assigned midterm papers, and I dont have the topics for them, now next week i have to write 10 pages worth of papers in 4 days (with school and work).
Super Cool story (srs, true story, I actually just got better today =[.)
Story is...take a ****ing break from the gym, a week wont kill you.
This was like 3 days ago

hell, if you are 18 and it messed you up like that. i guess i will wait until i finish the Zpak. that was another concern, pushing my body with those meds in me. luckily I have only lost 4lbs. but i know I have put on fat like a cow in this last week. which is still ok, considering i had the flu LOL

I'd suggest you stay home and get better. No need to bring your sickness into the gym and infect everybody else.

very true, but the sad thing is, I think that is where I got it from. I dont think I am contagious anymore though. fever is gone, got the antibotics going, and feeling better. but i think i will take the advice and wait 3 more days. Lord knows my house could use the cleaning.

I feel your pain. I just went through that 2 weeks ago. I had a nasty virus, the worst one I've had in years. I'll spare the gory details, but put it this way...I lost 10lbs in just over 24 hours. I tried to eat, even just some toast, on the day I was really sick, but it just wasn't staying down.
Missing a few days at the gym won't kill you, and it won't make you lose everything you've worked for. If you're feeling up to it, then go in and maybe start slowly. My first day back, I took it slower than normal and did what I could. In fact, my first day back was a day I normally do 30 minutes of cardio after working out. But about 12 minutes in, I was feeling more tired than normal and dehydrated. So I just shut it down and walked away.
Listen to your body. Don't overdo it. If you're feeling weak, take a break and let your body recover. If you really feel ready, give it a go.

If I get sick I take time off until I feel better. If I was a sponsered athlete I might have a different opinion because people were depending on me and money was being spent on my behalf. in the long run 1 week off for the recreational lifter is not going to make any difference at the end of the year. Plus I don't spread my illness to my fellow gym members. which I'm sure they appreciate.

I was fighting an upper respritory and sinus infection this past March and skipped the gym for almost 2 weeks. I sounded awful and no one would have appreciated me being there. I took a few days off from work as well, something I rarely do when I'm sick.

I kind of have that old school mentality of never missing a workout just because I don't feel good. No matter how sick I am, I usually still workout. Nine out of ten times, I usually feel a little better afterwards. I'm not saying working out thru illness is the right thing to do...just my 2 cents.
