Kevin Levrone told Shawn Ray and Flex Wheeler something many have long suspected, but could never prove. Now it is undeniable.
On Ray and Wheeler's MD radio show, Levrone said, "I onced asked Joe Weider why nobody can beat a reigning Mr. Olympia." And he said, 'if I allow Mr. Olympia to be defeated then my contest will be just like everybody else's. People come and see the show because of the possibility Mr. Olympia could be beaten.'
Two words here are damaging - allow and possibility. You guys can judge for yourself, but unless Levrone is bold-faced lying, politricks was DEFINITELY a factor.

If i owe u reps and i haven't gotten u in a week..PM me.
Levrone makes up more shiit then anyone in the business.
So your opinion is he's lying?
That's a pretty big indictment of the Father of Bodybuilding. I can't imagine he would slander Weider like that if it wasn't true, but as I said, you guys can judge for yourselves. I just wanted to put it out there for discussion, as I know not everyone listens to these radio shows.

I'm not saying it still the same. Thankfully, it's not. The same judges used to judge all the shows year after year. Haney wins 8 times, Dorian 6, Coleman 8. Weider is not really in control anymore and many things have changed for the better. Levrone's quote is illustrative of how things were from the 80's through the mid 2000's.
It does shed some light on why the same guy won year after and the title only changed hands when Haney retired, Dorian retired and Ronnie just lost it.

so you're saying there WAS a second gunman or that the government really did blow up the trade center? which one is it, having a hard time following your logic.

IF Levrone is to be believed the "logic," as you put it, is that the guy who was in charge of the entire show was influencing its outcome. Many here have said the sponsors, i.e., Muscletech, were calling the shots. Well, a guy who was a four-time 2nd place finisher in the contest is telling us the guy who ran it all had a vision, some would say, a policy, of not allowing the reigning champ to lose because it was good for business.

I'd slander Weider if he ACTUALLY told me that.

Well, I think Weider just got really old and could not control or influence like he used to. The cooler heads probably convinced him - or just decided themselves - that the sport was losing credibility by being so predictable. See, before the internet, nobody knew anything about how these guys looked off season, what they were doing, etc. Back in the day all we had were the magazines and how the guys looked on the day of the show. Now we've got all these websites, webcasts and much more visibility, and the fans are more informed than ever because of it, so we know who should win and who should not.
They (the IFBB) had to progress and adjust their way of doing things if they were going to be relevant to the times. Just my $0.02.

He said, (I'm paraphrasing) "I guess from a business standpoint, Joe had the right idea, but for those of us who were killing ourselves chasing Dorian and Ronnie, it wasn't very fair."

Um did you see the pics of Ronnie? THAT explains why he won it for 8 years straight not this stupid bull****.
in 80s & 90s it was all mainly weider in control. there werent as many supp companies around, weider did have his own line & the few others had to bow to him, afterall it was his show. the champ retaining the crown is good for business stability, uncertainity is risk & risk costs money. if things are more stable its easier to plan long term. the champs face was on more ads than any other guy.
now there are many players in the game, weider sold his interest back in 03 & it is more competitive & more exciting knowing champs can go down.

Yep, I saw him lose to Jay in 01, lose to Levrone in 02 and lose again to Jay in 05. All others were legit wins.
Stupid bull****? Really?
Then explain the quote, "if I allow. . . "
i'm glad everyone is entitled to their opinions. in hindsight though, i can't complain about any O after actually going to one. people this year are complaining about the placings, and after seeing it, i can stand behind why the judges chose who they did. personally i may disagree with some, but not enough to rule it conspiracy. just different opinion.
such as, i think dex could have placed lower, and i think freeman should have placed higher, but not enough to really care.
i like levrone, but i can't really say he beat someone at any of those comps because i wasn't there, and being there and pics are two different stories. perception has to be included, otherwise there wouldn't be routines and solo's.

I did not start this thread to talk about who won what year or who shold have won. I'm simply passing along Levrone's quote. One thing I'm sure we can all agree on is it's nice to finally see the judges get it right.

Finally? They got it wrong in 2007, quit acting like the judging has been **** the last 20 years.

Yes, they were among the greatest, but they ALL won when they shouldn't have in certain years.
most likely cause the judges have to judge off the best. it is too hard to judge against everyone it would take forever and they can only hold that condition a few hours max

The guys who held the title for many years actually deserved it. They were the best on stage (except Dorian in 97) every time they competed and thats why they won.

I think he means polytricks...meaning many tricks. Or maybe politrix, which sounds like a new name for a cereal featuring a rabbit on the box.
