To all the teens who "cant put on weight"
I am sick of hearing teens whinge and complain about how they can't gain weight. (I'm sure i'm not the only one) So i'm going to list the things i consider important to making good progress, and hopefully some of the other experienced teens like Jaxxed, Bondons and AirChair can pitch in (I know i missed a heap of others, these few came to mind) I know this has been done before, but nearly every thread lately makes me facepalm, so hopefully we can get some other input and keep this bumped.
Journal In my opinion, a journal is nearly imperative to making consistent gains, the following should be included
Diet. Make note of what you ate, and when you ate it. Then at the end of the day take 10 mintues out of your time, to evaluate it and workout calorie intake. Most of the 150lbs kids that are taking in "5000+ cals a day" are more likely to be down around 3000. Also make sure you are eating every 2-3 hours.
Training. Log each workout, including duration, intensity, reps performed and relevant weight used. Use this a guide to construct your next workout. Too often i see guys come in squat 2 plates, then the nest week only squat 1 1/2, and they never progress. You should be increasing the weight or reps every week where you can. And while we are on this topic i want to clarify that if you squat 2 plates for 5 reps, then the next squat session you sqaut 2 plates for 6 reps, you have gained strength. People fail to realise this and decide they need to start doing fancy shit, when they just need to stick with what they are doing.
Stats. These should be recorded sparringly, weight should be recorded once every few weeks. NOT EVERY DAY kids are like ZOMG i gained 4lbs in one day, it must have been teh fatz, i have to now go on a mini cut for a week to lose it. Dont rely on the scales for anything. Be sure to record measurments where possible to, just to track progress, if you weight hasnt gone up a great deal, but your gaining on your arms/legs, or losing on your waist you're doing it right.
Training. You must have a plan, sure guys like bondons and jaxxed say oh i dont really have a routine i just train whatever, whenever, it is quite apparant they are genetically gifted, for the guys with inferior genetics, you need to have a plan and you need to be precise in the attack
EGOS.. Best left at the door. Lifting heavy weights with sloppy form/ poor ROM, isn't impressing anyone but the beach muscle kids. The true lifters are impressed by the guy who comes in and trains hard with proper technique. Anyone can grab a dumbell and start swinging it around and doing bicepcurlshrugfrontraises.
Technique If you are having a hard time gaining size/weight, then you MUST use a full ROM. This is a going to be heavily debated i believe, but i think it is a must. Partial reps have there place in training, but that is in the advanced stages. If your a noob/want to make best gains, using a full ROM is for the win! If you were having sex with a girl would you, be doing half thrusts? I think not, treat your training the same, go throught the whole motion, this includes squating to parallel or below, touching the chest on bench, deadlifting of the floor, not the pins in a power rack.
Exercises. KISS! Keep it simple stupid! There is no need for squats on a fitball etc. Stick to the bread and butter exercises. Sqauts, deads, bench, rows, push presses, etc.
Diet again KISS. Keep it simple! Stick to lean sources of protein, make sure you are eating plenty of quality carbs, and dont be scared of fats. Make sure supplements are only used to supplement your diet, stick to whole foods where you can.
Supplements KISS. Creatine monohydrate, multi, and protien. Theres no need for a blend of 30 different creatines witrh propietry blends.
If i wansn't nearly certain this will fall on deaf ears i would have gone into more detail, but it seems that you try to help people and they dont want to hear it, so i hope some other people can add/expand upon what i have mentioned and some of the guys complaing about having bad genetics etc take some stuff on board

Patience is probably the biggest thing, in conjunction with doing all of the above.

Also another thing I'd like to add is for people who are having a hard time EATING, try drinking more water.

Ah i planned to mention this and forgot, you should have a water bottle on you all the time, i drink anywhere between 10-15 600ml bottles of water a day. Upon waking i drink a big bottle to replenish fluids lost over night, staying hyrdated is a must.

The biggest problem I had was I was trying to jump right into eating 3500+ calories a day, from 2000 or less. It's just got to be a gradual thing. When I shoved way more food down then I could handle my stomach felt horrible, I was NEVER hungry, and I quit 2 or 3 days into it because I was sick of it. Actually ended up losing weight. I'm by no means a heavyweight (yet!) but I've gained over 10 pounds relatively easily the past month and a half, just gradually building up calories. I'm actually hungry every few hours.

intensity is the most important imo.
even if it's the simplest movement like a db curl, curl like you will never be able to curl again.
3 sets of full-on, balls-to-the-walls intensity will reap more results than 21 sets of 7 different exercises for a muscle.

Yes, another point i forgot about, to those who have trouble eating high amounts of calories, start eating more frequently but with smaller portions, get your body used to eating every 2-3 hours, then you can focus on eating bigger portions. I was in the same boat, and now i have to eat every 2 hours or i feel like death.

Yes i agree to an extent, i guess it all comes down to lifting heavy, and i dont mean heavy in general i mean heavy specifically to each person, i guess again its simplicity, if something is easy make it harder, i knows its a hard concept to comprehend cause it goes against everything we do in life, we are always making things easier, but if you want to grow you have to be doing things the hard way.

That might be abbreviated more like SBADaTBYPaLtRBYMUC. You can see how I get the two mixed up.

And do you understand why? Simplicity.. it works!
I am sick of seeing noobs that are like omg i can't get bigger or stronger, hows my workout for today look?
Superset: Squats with Deadlifts.. oh by the way i am also doing this incorporated with dropsets.
The classics like Arnold, Francis Benfatto, Lou Ferrigno, etc, were all simple men, they trained hard and ate smart.

Thats it. Too often if goes like this
"I can't get stronger, fml!"
"Have you tried adding more weight to the bar"
"Oh nah, not yet, i was waiting till i can handle current weight more comfortably"
"FACEPALM"
You cant get better at something unless you practice it. If your squat sucks, then dont start doing retarded isolation exercise and fitball squats. SQUAT

I can say, in a very relieved fashion, that there's nothing I'd wanna add to this. The fact that you kept it concise probably aided in its usefulness. Will rep on recharge.
I do have to agree that it'll largely fall on deaf ears, though. Users like ryanoakes are seemingly becoming the norm --although I hope to see a downturn in the posters like him, with summer coming to an end and a discontinued need for teh abz-- and won't understand no matter how many times you tell them, but if nothing else I have a thread to link to for the redundant question threads.

Yes the ryanoakes, and chase007's are becoming increasing popular. I really wish there was a way the Advanced teen section could come back, and only verified users could have the password to enter.
I open teen section today and having to see the things i did makes me want to punch someone
"I am bulking, and i have gained 2 inches on my waist is this normal? Will it be hard to lose when i cut?"
"Can I use creatine on ripptoes?"
"I have lower back pain, have i been lifting wrong?"
"I am skinny but I don't want to bulk, how can i get big?"
Like wtf is wrong with people?!

Very nice post but it won't stop the stupid questions being posted. Haha. Wishful thinking though,Ha ha. I just read the thread title and if its a stupid I won't even enter unless I'm bored and want to lecture them on how to use the search function.
