Persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than
unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a
proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated
derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will
solve the problems of the human race.”

One of the things I have always admired about rap is their ability to put so much into one release.
What I mean is there are more words per one standard rap tune than there is in most entire rock albums. To do that and also make it coherent relevant to its target audience is a feet.
Of course there is the axion "more doesn't meen better" but some of the better ones pull it off quite nicely.

Stupidity started way before rap music and will be around it way after
Love Toby Mac - rap and Christian music what else could you want
I don't like the violent hip hop - but there's a lot out there that's not and it's great for getting pumped for lifting.* I work hard - I want it - I deserve it - the time is now *

I just listened to it. It isn't my bag I'm afraid. I mentioned The Sugarhill Gang as they relied heavily on samples of 70's disco, same as Will Smith. I do like that kind of rap due to the taking very cool music and putting a different spin on it.
For example:
Gettin' Jiggy With It - The Greatest Dancer
Express Yourself NWA - Express Yourself Charles Wright And The 101st Street Rhythmn Band
Mo' Money Mo' Problems - I'm coming Out
Rapper's Delight - Good Times
One rap track I love is The Crown by Gary Byrd and The GBE. Gary Byrd wrote the lyrics to Stevie Wonder's Village Ghetto Land. Positive message and Stevie repaid the 'Ghetto Land' favour by adding a fantastic 'middle 8'.
QFT.
The Message was Grandmaster and Melle Mel.Last edited by Stevelegh; 09-27-2009 at 06:07 AM.
