First, thanks to 40 for picking me to review this.
Criteria was to taste this in water, rice milk, and a mixture of both. I also made sludge, blended with oats, mixed with banana casein, and used it as "milk" for my cereal.
Taste-
I was ever able to describe the chocolate flavor. Others said it was like a brownie flavor, but I dont really agree. Its very good and pretty sweet with a nice after taste. I got a kind of chocolate/butterscotch taste but again, Im not really sure how to describe it. Definitely unlike any other chocolate protein Ive ever had.
I liked it best mixed with water. I dont drink milk, so I cannot comment on how that tastes. When I used rice milk, it came out very sweet. I liked it, but Im not a sugar person. 1 scoop in 6-8oz of water tasted great to me. Mixed with water and rice milk, it still came out a little sweet for my liking.
I also mixed it with my HP banana casein. The casein has a very overpowering taste to it and the Combat Protein powder masnt strong enough to match up (nothing Ive tried has).
When I blended it with oats and water, I noticed the oats stayed floating in the shake more so than when I use regular whey.
When I blended with water and poured it over cereal, it took longer for the cereal to get soggy.
This was great for sludge as well. The scoop is huge, so using 2 tbsp of peanut butter made for a large amount.
Mixibility-
The first time I mixed it, I tried stirring in a cup. It started off looking like it wouldnt mix, but after a couple seconds it folded in and mixed up great. It only left the typical clumps that most proteins do when you mix by hand. When I had finished, there were little clumps that sunk to the bottom and stuck to the side of the cup. Same thing happened when I blended the shake as well. These were difficult to swish around with water.
Texture-
I thought it was pretty creamy. I prefer thicker shakes like Scivation or Pro NOS, but this was about in the middle of most textures. It went down like any other whey/casein shake, smooth and not gritty.
Overall, this was very pleasant to drink. For a number rating, Id put the taste up around an 8.5-9/10, with 10 being something like Pro NOS and a 9 being XF or Scivation Whey. I wish the flavor had been a little stronger, but overall there is nothing negative to say about the product.
