DL...why no straps?
I deadlift with straps. I'll admit it.
I'm not deadlifting to exercise my finger strength, I'm deadlifting because I like lifting heavy ass weight, as heavy as I can. Whether or not that bar is lassoed to my hands or I'm gripping it with my skinny-ass fingers, I just want to move as much weight as possible.
And in b4 163 lbs...I still deadlift 405 for 7 reps (with straps) which is damn good no matter what you think.
I think we need to start a DL with straps club up in this. Too much strap hate in the Misc.
Also, I'm fixing to post a video (next time I DL, in a day or two) to put beezy, bless his little heart, to shame.

unless you are a powerlifter where you HAVE to lift without straps, i dont see the issue with wearing them. If it makes the difference between you lifting a hell of a lot more weight and therefore overloading your muscles moreso, why not?
With that said, i used straps on pretty much every back exercise as i can focus on pulling from the elbow rather than my hand.

i also DL with straps, cant remember the last time i DL'd without.
If i want to work out my forearms, I will do forearm exercises. If I want a full body with the brunt of it on my back and shoulders, I'll DL with straps.

Strap nazis are retarded. If your grip gives before your back does use straps. Dont deny your back a good workout because of your grip. Train your grip after you do back. The grip part of a deadlift is a static hold. Go hold some heavy ass dumbbells or a barbell for a few sets of 30 seconds and start bringing up your grip.

I don't care if the problem is my skinny fingers or my skinny forearms, the point is that I want to move lots of weight. I'm doing DL's on back day, not forearm day.

i try not to use straps as much as i did, but i will use it mainly cuz u can lift more weight, and overload your muscles more.
i agree, too much strap hate in the misc.
I'll DL w straps and then just do some farmer carries with a pair of 75's afterwards

Jesus christ there is some high and mighty people in here. Why be so self righteous?
If your goal is to put mass on/strengthen the legs/back, you are going to use straps if it means you can lift more.
Im all for improving grip strength but not at the expense of overall development.

I don't really believe in using gloves, straps n belts.. but whatever floats your boat man.
If the weight im lifting starts slipping out of my hands then i guess i need to grip harder or go lower in weight until my grip gets better, but no straps fer meee

i never used straps but i ordered some with my last bb.com purchase and im mad excited to try them. i start with 225 and by the 10th one i get is up easy as hell but my grip is ggooonnneee.
i dont think it works forearms either way, (my forearms are NEVER even close to sore after i deadlift) so i dont care.

I like DL'ing without straps because I like the fact that I can lift 300+ lbs off the ground without anything but me. I love the functional excercises. If a neighbor asks me to help him move his engine through the backyard into the back of a truck, I'll just go do it. I won't go get my straps on. I don't hate on people that use them though. Just my thoughts.

No Straps. Never use straps for Deadlifts. If your grip is weak, Deadlift more. Switch to an alternate grip (baseball grip) & use chalk.

Not a very good comparison there brah. Straps offer no assistance on the positive motion of the lift, whereas a bench shirt does.

OP requested bigbeezy stop by and share his opinion on straps, so here it goes
bigbeezy hates straps, he has never used them and he never will. IBBO chalk does a better job at securing the weight, no slipping etc... Bigbeezy has always found with straps, you are not focused 100 percent on the weight, instead you are worrying about if your straps are in the right place, if they are tight enough, are they going to slip etc.. and when you are going to deadlift 500 pounds, you can't have anything on your mind other than moving some heavy weight.
