New AIDS study shows promising result

Kudos to whoever volunteered for this study. It's unethical to do, IMO.

Dude whichever drug company comes out with an AIDS vaccine first will make far more money off it than they would make off AIDS medication. Think about it, the number of people that have AIDS is far less than the number of people who dont want to get it.

If AIDS is prevented, more gays and drug usage would probably appear?
Still the benefits out weighs the risks.

Thing i don't understand about the study is how did they know that those volunteers will ever be sexually active.
How did they know those who weren't infected did sleep with someone carying the virus unless they made them do it?
Kinda confused.

"ALVAC uses canarypox, a bird virus altered so it can't cause human disease, to ferry synthetic versions of three HIV genes into the body. AIDSVAX contains a genetically engineered version of a protein on HIV's surface. The vaccines are not made from whole virus -- dead or alive -- and cannot cause HIV."

In the UK they spend $16k a year on retro viral drugs for each person. You think they can earn that preventing aids in each person? They have shareholders to satisfy much more important than the good of humanity.

they picked a city with a high infection rate...they volunteers were already sexually active, tested them to make sure they were neg and they probably filled out a questionaire that put them in a high risk catagory (like do you participate in unprotected sex)
then they were give the vaccine (yes some placebo) given condoms and counseling and monitored occasionally for 3 years
then they get a higher infection rate for those in the placebo group...not 100% solid because you don't know if the ones from the vaccine group slept with the same number of those infected but it's how it's done.
