Marathon Runners - Is this a good schedule?
http://www.runnersworld.com/article/...X5X7-4,00.html
Ive been running 60 miles a week on average and this is the advance training program. I have a marathon scheduled on Feb 21st of 2010 so I would be starting this on Nov 1st.

As for running 60 miles a week on average, what are you high mileage weeks like? The reason I ask is that you'll probably get bored with any of these programs as you already have more than the base miles required for a marathon plan. Why are you starting in November if you are already doing 15+ mile runs now out of curiosity? Are you looking for speed in the program?

Well yeah, I need speed work. The reason why im starting this program in November is because it gives me exactally 16 weeks to follow the whole thing leading right the the Marathon.

I like the no-to-little rest day theory too when it comes to long distance. But you can still have active-rest days, like a few sets of strideouts, sprints, cooldown jog. I incorporate one or two a week.

training for a marathon is hard, but im addicted. I started running last year (im a juniour in high school(16)) and have worked my way up 120 miles a week. A lot of people think im insane but i took 10th last year in a pretty big marathon, i was only one spot away from getting some serious cash!!! Right now I do 10 steady miles in the morning (before school sucks waking up at 4) and then usually speed work with my cross country team after (usually bout 6-7 miles). On sundays i do a 20 miler and about 6 days a week i try and lift either arms or core, you want to prob stay away from legs cause youll notice extreme fatigue during your next couple runs and it actually will hurt your training more than help it. To gain more leg stregnth do things like hill workout(specific wrokout, not just usuall run). personally i havent taken a day off in more than 6 months but that just me, idk if this helps or not but just try and keep a really good base and try to do some speed and stregth training. WORK YOUR WAY INTO IT though dont just start all at once
