Heres a few piccies of Sydney yesterday in a red dust storm blown in from the Outback.

Takes me back to 90/91 during Desert Shield/Storm.
Sand storms which looked like your photos and gray ones from the oil fires.

Driving through Northern Arizona in the spring we had a red out. I am used to white outs though this was scary. The red sand was blowing so hard that it sounded like we were being sand blasted. I was figuring our suburban would be primer gray on the other side. You didn't dare stop as there was zero visibility and the sand was piling up on the road in drifts so you would suddenly hit washboards with no visibility. I was white knuckling it and never so happy to see the road again. Scared some gray hair into me.

reminds me of the great dust bowl in the early 1900's here in amaerica where farmers out farmed the lad,..nothing left but blown up dust.
