The Future
Im tryin to switch my hours around, so i was just sittin here and thinkin...
We are on the brink of Huge changes in the way we live.
People dont realize how much has changed in Just 100 years, 100 years is short, Its a life time with some change.
In one hundred years we have gone from
to
From no computers, to computers that had to be the size of a bedroom to hold 1 MB of date, To having computers that can connect an internet, take high quality pictures and video, call people, smaller than the size of your hand, and little chips the size of your fingernail that can hold 4 Thousand MB's.
Solar energy...
Space travel...
ALL in 100 years.
ITT, post ideas or things you think may happen in the next 100 years.

ive got a few ideas
Muscle, I honestly believe we are in some of the last days of natural muscle. with science and technology, soon labs will be able to produce synthetic muscle, or simply inject you with a chemical that causes muscle growth. (no juice)
If you dont know, they are already creating human organs in labs. I believe in 100 years, if you have money, you wont have to lift weight at all to be ripped.
also
Being happy, endorphins are a chemical your body produces and releases, its what makes you happy. Its possible in the next 100 years that we have a way to continuously produce endorphins and releasing them, pretty much keeping you constantly happy (some people might not want)
and last, Energy.
We will eventually come up with new ways to produce Massive amounts of energy. Dams... solar panels... all those ways will be gone. I forget the type of energy im talking about but eventually im sure we will have single rooms be able to power entire cities, at a very low cost.

http://www.futuretimeline.net/index.htm
Enjoy, it has a lot of theories on what will be in place within the next few decades all the way up till the 23rd century. Makes for a very interesting, and actually convincing read with multiple sources listed for reference.
I sat for 2 hours last night and read the whole website haha, MIND = BLOWN, especially on the exponential growth of computers. COMPUTER POWER IS DOUBLING EVERY SINGLE YEAR!! At this rate by around 2050, computer power will of increased around a BILLIONFOLD. This will mean there will be a computer in the 2050's that is more powerful than EVERY HUMAN BRAIN ON THE PLANET, THAT HAS EVER LIVED. It took us about from when computers were invented until now to have one as powerful as an insects brain. In a few years we'll have one as powerful as a mouses brain. Then by 2020 there will be one as powerful as a human brain, due to the MASSIVE computer power growth.

Computer power isn't really doubling every single year anymore though. Originally, that was true. But we have somewhat stalled with current technology. The only way to make a processor faster now is by adding more processors. Dual core, Quad Core, Octo Core, etc. By the time we have enough computer power for a single human brain, if it still uses the design of current processors you are going to need a couple dedicated hydro plants just to power it. We wouldn't be able to generate enough electricity to power a computer that has the power of every brain ever lived.
We are going to need some serious leaps in technology to ever accomplish this.
But on that note, there is an experimental processor being worked on that actually does mimic the human brain and uses a fraction of the power of current processors. Whether or not it will work remains to be seen. Going to read that site later.

systems that grow exponentially tend not to do so indefinitely.
this level of prediction from a short term past trend = fail.

Advancement is now exponential in all areas. In 100 years it's anyones guess.
Better to predict what will happen in 20 years.
Within the next 5 years TV as we know it will be well on the way out. Right now you have the computer power to create your own Hollywood style CGI movie using software like Cinema4D or Maya etc. on a cheap Quad Core CPU.
The only down side is that it would take you 1 year to render it out or 1 month with a quad server farm, and those soft still require a lot of technical skill to use it and artistic skill to create it.
Withing 5 years these things will happen.
1) You will own a desktop PC that is capable of rendering out hollywood quality CGI movie in 1 month. NO server farm needed.
2) The software will become sophisticated enough that a novice can create high quality movies without having to be skilled in the software or an artist. Just drag and drop pre made characters into a storyboard etc.
What this means is that people will create their own movies, sitcoms with real life CGI and hollywood will no longer be needed. Entertainment will become full on hardcore Misc like shenanigans with porn sitcoms and lulz everywhere that will be so far off the moral scale that it will make people's minds blow.

After reading through that futuretimeline site I really ****in hope the world doesn't eliminate the needs for fossils fuels, mainly Coal, in 2040
****...I might be able to retire then.
What would someone who has been a miner for near 33 years at that time do for a living?
Piss!

First part is actually quite possible in the near future..
Insight into myostatin deficiencies have granted scientists with the tools to understand muscle growth more deeply and to apply it's structures to artificial growth. This is fantastic news for many degrading diseases like muscular dystrophy.

This is true, but for the time being the exponential growth continues, and it is plausible to suggest it still will be in 2050.
I do believe all of this is possible in the timescales predicted, in the very best case scenario. I personally think that we'll reach peak oil levels way before renewable energy is common, or technologically advanced enough to replace the amount of fossil fuels we currently require (which is also rapidly increasing, thankyou China and India).
This could go two ways i suppose though, either we plunder all of our minds and resources into actually improving our technology to fix the energy crisis. Or the conflicts + huge energy shortages and rationing will stump our technological growth altogether.
Who knows.

Mind=blown everytime we think about the next 50-100 years. Imagine what it'll be like thousands of years from now. That's some truly fascinating stuff.
