What a loser... unlike most cases, he actually was in and should have known better how easy it is for this kind of fraud to be discovered, and how harsh the penalities can be.

What a F*cker, he should have known he would get caught and even the youngest recruit knows penalities for that type of behaviors is strict and harsh.

Stories like this almost bring tears to my eyes. Better to not have served with honor, than to have served with dishonor. Service is voluntary, integrity and honor are not.

I was on a website the other day that was dedicated to exposing these guys complete with names and pictures. I was absolutely amazed at the extent they will take it to. They had one guy on there that was spotted at an airport where he would get "ata boys", another marine spotted him because he was a private wearing NCO pants(they made him take off his jacked up uniform before he could leave). They had another guy on there that had actually spoken at an ROTC graduation about leadership....Presidents of local VFW's exposed and on and on.

A very true statement. It has been my experience that the ones who served with honor and distinction are the last ones to bring it up. You have to ask specific questions to get details.

I come from a military family and I'm one of the few who didn't get to serve. So that is fairly shocking to read. I know one guy who served stateside during Vietnam that tells people that he was over THERE. Pathetic.

My dad worked with a man who was one of Merrill's Marauders. Try as he might (and very respectfully) to get him to talk about what he & his comrades went thru, usually the best he would get would be a simple "yeah" or "nay'.

I read the story and was not only outraged at what this guy did but also by the fact that so many seem to be doing it. What is wrong with these people?
The ones who served the proudest--and maybe not the "best" in terms of winning medals or enemy killed in whichever war they fought in--are the ones who said they served, came home alive to their loved ones and friends---and never mentioned what they did.
I hope they throw the book at this guy. A very heavy book. A dishonorable discharge is too good for him.

IMO...you quote is correct and I've always been of the mind that the ones that boast the most have done the least
I have busted a few in my time by just listening as they bury themselves in their own bull sh!t.

Haha....yes, even worse than Kerry.
I've read much of the stuff on Kerry.
When his military awards were put in the newspaper is was obvious to me that...IMO...those awards were much due to exaggeration and military cronyism.
Later....

Correct....those who have actually been boots on the ground don't just start volunteering information about their military service.
When people find out about my joyride in the military they do inquire and I don't mind answering questions because most people are genuinely interested.

Being a marine is hard. It takes a special breed. I tried and couldn't hack it. Got booted out a year and a half in because I got stress fractures so bad I couldn't run anymore. But even though I failed in the end it gave me not only an appreciation of the kind of person it takes to serve but it also gave me a taste of what one gives up to see to it that the rest of us don't have to give those things up. This guy should know better. This stuff sickens me. I can't imagine how it would make someone feel who actually walked the whole mile, let alone someone who actually saw combat, let even more alone the people that actually did earn medals like this. I'd imagine there aren't words to describe it.

I watched a video of a guy at "The Wall" who was interviewed by a vietnam vet who was now a reporter. The vet picked the guy out as a fraud by the ribbons he was wearing and could not explain (his shirt looked like a Christmas display from Macy's). When asked when he was "in country" the guy said something like "from 1962 to 1968". Six years strait, that's one loooonnnng tour!

No....ha...tours aren't six years.
From my perspective a fraud is somewhat easy to pick out and I've met a few.
Not friends but only passing acquantances.
I only called one guy out back in 1970 when I was working at H.P and he made the mistake of being in my proximity too often....it was ugly....I was happy....we never spoke again.
Even if one comes off as intitially convincing to someone who has 'walked the walk' they will eventually make a grave error in conversation that will confirm ones' suspicians.
What is incredible to me is that the humiliation and disgrace of eventually being busted for the world to see seems much more painful to endure than accepting the fact that you're a just a phony, miserable POS that is using up good air.
Oh well...who am I to use logic with an issue like this.
Thanks to all for indulging my rant.
