Does anyone know the best way to get started in crossfit on your own? e.g. routines, etc.

Go to their site, find the workout of the day, scale the weight as needed, and try it out.

There is a few cf gyms in australia. Youll have to search for them tho.

I'd say the quickest way to have high level performance in the wod's is to get strong on the major lifts first and then go and do xfit. Lots of people will struggle with doing unscaled versions of the workouts for a long time because they didn't come in with the necessary strength to do them unscaled. And randomly programmed training is not very conducive to gaining strength. You need regularly scheduled and consistent strength training in order to get stronger.

If you walk into a gym whos trainer is big on cf, you'll pretty much walk into it.

Their website has a lot of material but honestly, the compound exercises are much more complicated than BB exercises and you really need someone to show you how it's done. You can learn to bench press from Youtube. You have a low chance (don't waste your time replying telling me it's possible therefore I'm wrong) of learning to CORRECTLY perform a clean and jerk via youtube.
