When I've done about 8 reps on moderate weight and I want to push out those last reps, I tend to do about 3 more, but they would have the range of half reps. In reality, I can, at that time, only do one more FULL rep (squeeze it out); resulting in 9 reps total.
This makes me feel like I haven't given it my all and should've done a few more reps.
So the question: for effective training (emphase on building muscle mass) should I do those 8 full reps then 3 more half reps or 8 full reps then one more slowly squeezed last full rep?

Stop the set when you can't get another rep with good form.
No brain, no gain.

You don't have to go to failure on every set, might be worth pushing those extra few half reps sometimes as long as it is safe to and you aren't running the risk of injury.

Alright, misdirected anger aside......
OP, You don't have to go to complete failure every set.
Theres nothing wrong with stopping when form is being compromised.
But, if you feel like your cheating yourself, but don't want to compromise form either,
try either doing a drop set and continuing with lower weight, or even doing a compounding set by doing some BW pushups after your bench press.

i understand that...said it because i thought ya looked like carrot top in the pic it was all in fun i don't take stuff on the internet serious lol....
as far as doing every set to failure i mis read the question i thought he asking about on his final set..but either way as everyone else has said still make sure you maintain correct form. thats why i have a friend help with negative reps...to ensure that my form is still correct. Just my preference i guess..but no you don't HAVE to go to failure everytime."Pain Is Just Weakness Leaving The Body"
