if you think its good, then its good. why does it matter what people think? if you do, people usually compare how much u lift to how much u weigh.

well, if it's more than you could do before, than it's definetly good that you've progressed and improved!

OBJECTIVELY, no it isn't a very strong row, just being blunt here, keep training and it'll definetly go up more!

    fixed.

Thread starter, I don't bench the most in the world, on this site, or even in my city or university.

But in a 3 month bulk I increased it by 50 lbs. And that's good to me.

And yes, 175 lb. row is good.

I agree that is pretty damn good. That is a difficult exercise because of the huge musclar involvement and lower back stabilization required. The guy that said its not very much probably seen the photo of Arnold doing 225 standing at the end of the bench.

Thats the problem. you are comparing this guy to bodybuilders, powerlifters and yourselves which are exceptions to society. This guy rows 175 wereas the normal man would have a **** fit and be happy if he did it with 100 lbs.

the guy wanted to compare himself to other people, he asked if 175 was good and he got an answer, you're right a lot of 'normal' people would be happy with a 100lb row, but he rows 175 so he's not in the 'normal' crowd any more is he?

I agree. He shouldn't really care as long as he is getting bigger, but asking such a newb question I assume he is a newb and compare him against such.

terrible way to look at weights in my opinion, to me it seems people who says this use the fact that they bodybuild as an excuse to be weak but I digress if you're progressing in a way you like then whatever floats your boat.

exactly, but this isn't weightlifting, it's bodybuilding. if I liked powerlifting then I would have stuck with it...but I don't, I like bodybuilding.

no a 175 row is not good, its not evil either, its generally passive towards any sort of confrontation

Keep in mind there are a lot of ways to do them using various ways to "cheat" from leg drive, to low back momentum, to changing the angle of the movement.
The big thing is to do them consistantly and not vary something up that will cause you to have a false sense of progression.
This is a big issue with barbell rows. Its also a reason you can't compare barbell row weights as much person to person.
A 175 pound barbell row seems pretty good to me, but really you are only competing with yourself. I did 174 x 8 today for comparison. I am always wondering if my back angle is changing during the movement to make it easier and other such things. Such issues are one reason dumbell rows are good to alternate with also, braced on something your range of motion can be basically set more so than with a barbell row.
With some speed and momentum a lot more can be lifted on barbell rows.

Good point, I have a tough time telling if I'm progressing on weights, because its so natural to slowly stand up more and more as the weights get heavier. A partner here would help, I'm always wondering if I was low enough on a particularly heavy set, etc.

Bench press is easy to judge for me, since I touch my chest at the bottom and lock it out at the top. Its black and white. You made it or you didnt. Theres alot more grey area with barbell rows, since you can generally row more with a bit looser form, so you really have to monitor that closely and watch your torso angle, etc.

Also am I the only that noticed the OP did 175x1? I think its a little weird going for a 1 rep max on rows.

The tendency to cheat would be the greatest on one rep max attempts also.
Kind of odd to try with that first on this movement. Its like trying to max out on shrugs or calf raises the first time you try it.
WIth bench press its hard to compare numbers from person to person because of back arch, shirts, spotter help and so on. But on an invididual level its easier to tell if you are progressing or not unlike with barbell rows.

True, but I wouldnt consider someone a bodybuilder yet unless they could lift pretty decent weight. You gotta have a body to 'build' it....

That's bull**** Goju. Once again you let your personal opinions interfere with your ability to give any sort of decent advice here. It really is getting old.

Yeah, I have read of people never benching over 225 and they have an amazing chest.

Yep my oldest brother does sets of 15- 20 up to 225 twice a week. And he has a full, thick chest from the collarbone down. While I have always believed in heavy, progressive benching yet my chest has always paled in comparison to his. Serge Nubret would also do 225 at high reps though he was capable of benching much, much more when he wanted to. And his chest speaks for itself.
