They aren't a very important exercise anyways. I can do them but it always feels a little awkward so I don't bother anymore.

I'd go with dumbbells unless your lifting really heavy.

in front of the neck should only be used as military... .behind the necks are good. i like them. if your worried about injury use a smith maching. any of the bigger (250+) guys I know tend to use smith for it. they go pretty heavy and spotting free weight behind the neck in that position still can not be enough

Behind the neck seriously feels like im going to fuk up my spine. In front I just sit up as straight as possible and touch the bar to my shoulders each rep.

For me they hurt my joints in my shoulders and mess up my upper back/neck muscles, but for others they work fine.

pro's use lateral movements because that's whats visible as a bodybuilder. if you aren't a professional bodybuilder, at the very least you should build them all balanced.

I do behind the next shoulder presses all the time. In my opinion it helps to isolate the shoulders, like someone else mentioned, doing shoulder presses in front of your face/neck allows you to use your chest.

Do seated shoulder presses with a bar and with dumbbells, if you can try and use a seat with no back rest, force yourself so sit up straight and balance. You will find this much more difficult than using a military bench.

Also do standing shoulder presses like this:

Do this till failure and your shoulders will explode.
If you can't lift it without chalk on your hands, put it down and go train your grip.

I used to do behind the neck shoulder presses then I started developing a problem with my right rotator cuff so I stopped doing that exercise and my shoulder got better. It doesn't bother me anymore.
Hit the muscle into submission. It won't have any choice but to grow.

I mix it up between DB, Standing Military, and Seated Smith Presses. All barbell movements are in front and the seat vertical.

behind the neck on a smith machine (no blasphemy) is a great exercise, hits all three heads of the delt and the SM minimizes the risk of shoulder injury IMO.

I always do seated military press on the smith machine ( **** is banging )

I've been doing behind the neck military press standing for a while now and it hurts when you go heavy sometimes.
