do you guys (especially those of you who seem to know your ff ****) carry backup def/kickers/TEs? Right now I have a backup TE, but no backup D, k, or QB since I am trying to stockpile free agents for later trade bait and to see how things shape out, plus its only a 10 team league so i figure there is always quality backups i can pick up to use for just one week. I was wondering how you guys play it...

I draft a backup TE in most drafts, but never a Kicker and only once have I drafted an extra Defense. That was this year, I had Pittsburgh as a late round keeper, and I didn't want to drop Pitt to pickup up another in week 8. So, I drafted Dallas, but after week 6 or 8, one will be cut for a position player. When drafting my backup TE, I wait until the best available TE is worse than my starter, but better than the next WR available. I hate playing matchups with my TE...I want my starter and a guy for bye week/emergency plug in.

C'mon Son!
No a kicker is a waste of space and so is a defense IMO. I keep one of each and i usuallydont draft a backup QB or TE unless its a deep league. I usually draft 1 or 2 wrs for backup and the rest are RB's because you never know if a guy is going to get injured and if he does and you have the backup then that can turn your whole season around.

Absolutely not. All of the K, DEF, and TE on the free agent list are more or less the same. It's a waste of a roster spot. I'd rather use that bench spot on a WR or RB who can come out of nowhere to make it big(similar to DeAngelo Williams last year).

Jermichael Finley is my backup TE and I roll with a backup QB. If you dont land one of the 3 big QBs it is pretty wise to draft two guys Hasselback and Schaub and just play matchups.
In one league I am down a McNabb and the waiverwire is crap.
I only have one defense because I play matchups. You can always pick someone up that is facing someone like the Rams.

I also do the matchup approach in my free leagues. 2 of my money leagues have a 6 transaction max for the season, so I play my drafted D until their bye, and pick up another who's already had their bye. My other money league has 10 transactions for free, anything extra costs $3 per...so I'm riding 1 K and 1 DEF until byes, unless I have surplus transactions towards the end of the year...then I'll play some matchups.

It aint easy bein steezy
I only carry a backup D/ST in deeper leagues. When my kicker has a bye chances are I'll just drop my starter and roll with someone off of the FA pool. I don't think I have a backup TE in any of my leagues, but I'm rolling with a backup QB in all of them.
